What is the consensus about matt paint finishes ?I saw a matt AMG GT in a Mercedes main dealer showroom.
It was by no means the most expensive car on display, but was displayed behind a temporary fence.
They said they dare not let it be rubbed by anyone, because there could be a shiny patch.
Sounds a nightmare.
Could this be a brief passing fashion ?
I remember Jeremy Clarkson touched on this when reviewing a BMW that had a £1500 optional matt finish quite a few years ago. He concluded along the lines of that you were paying £1500 for lot of inconvenience. I think I still concur.

that AMG GT that you saw, was that perhaps a GT-C edition 50 version?
around 2010 Lotus also had such Exige in such sort color, the Scura, was something special too, no idea if you have to polish such coating
how to maintain such? bring it to the detailer and let is shine? lol
Some look good for a weekend or maybe more in such color, but I guess there are some downlights of such.
Not had a matt paint but I know someone who did (on an rs6 I think?) And he swore never to go there again. A royal pain to look after but what was worse were things like stone chips and micro scratches which you can't just polish out.
Apparantly he was told a wrap in a matt finish is much easier to live with but again I don't have direct experience so don't know how true that is though I suppose a wrap would be easier in principle.

I'm fortunate enough to own one of the Lotus Exige Scura's . Stunning car. It's now 13 yrs old and the paint is still in great shape. I have a ceramic coating put on it every few years and just wash it with a special ceramic wash. Dead easy. I was apprehensive when I bought it 9 yrs ago for the same reasons but it's been fine.
People that want to look after them get full matte paint protection film (PPF) over the paint. There were a couple of matte Mercs getting this done when I got my Vantage full PPF done. They looked great. PPF is such wonderful stuff, especially when you have ceramic coating on the top.
Lovely drive out yesterday enjoying the sunny weather!
The Vantage F1 really does handle incredibly well. Using track mode the suspension is firm but the extra weight in the steering helps at higher speeds. Sadly the infotainment is playing up but that hasn’t detracted from my enjoyment of the most important thing, the drive!
