While not specifically an Aston, I`m sure you will indulge me here. A restaurant on a hill top five minutes from home regularly attracts the vintage car drivers on their sunny day circuits and yesterday this old Lagonda was parked there. I`m not clued up on the model, something from the 1930`s by the look of it, M45 maybe, smarter minds than mine will know!

Apart from the inside jokes, this is fantastic.

Ruby Anniversary for a ruby (Dubonnet Rosso) coloured car bought in April 1981 from Robin Hamilton, restored, for £5500. There was a DB5 for sale from Roland Duce for £3500, not restored but on the road.
Thems wos the days!
Apart from Aston Engineering fitting a ZF box in place of the awful auto in 1986 it has done over 50,000 trouble free miles

The front looks the same or similar, to RichB's Lagonda.
Think his is a saloon, but in the days of coachbuilding, there might have been various different bodies.

It was 1984 when I almost bought my first Aston - DB6 £5,250 (knocked the seller down to £4,900 on account of the engine leaking oil). Unfortunately, being 19 at the time my parents put me off (how are you going to insure it? where are you going to keep it? how are you going to afford to run it? blah, blah). Took me another 32 years to work may way through various cars to the DB9 I have today.

I still have a grudge against them for putting me off it! wink

One thing about Astons, they get under your skin and they stay there. I too was taken with an earlier model at a young age, only to finally realise that dream some 30 years later. There is something magical about them. They have a power that no other marque posses. Genuine crowd pleasers and loved by many.

I was 27 at the time and a new Ford Escort XR3 was about £5400 in 1981
My father told me not to be a damn fool, telling me he had just spent all this money on my education and he expected more wisdom. In about 1987 when the prices began to take off I overheard him telling his brother “That son of mine is really quite astute” but he never said anything to my face
In about 1989 there was a crash and I heard him telling his brother “ That damn fool son of mine should have sold that car when he had the chance, when I think of all the money I have wasted on his education!!”
The point is it was never about the money, all about the cars which I still love and hope never to part with

Here are some classic Airedales with matching Black and Tan

It has always disappointed me that classic cars became investments, the rise in prices lifted them beyond the reach of most enthusiasts - but that's the market!

My parents love my DB9 and never miss an opportunity to have a ride in it with me. I wonder what they'd have done if I had bought that DB6 all those years ago, I suspect they'd have been equally happy to be driven about in it.

Thank you the photographer was hanging out the back of a golf to take the road photos.

He specialises in car shoots and with his fee shared across the 17 attendees his fee was reasonable

He is called Khalid Bari and his Instagram address is @Khalid_bari.

He may be able to do the Yorkshire runout a week Sunday.
