How about an Aston photo thread!

While not specifically an Aston, I`m sure you will indulge me here. A restaurant on a hill top five minutes from home regularly attracts the vintage car drivers on their sunny day circuits and yesterday this old Lagonda was parked there. I`m not clued up on the model, something from the 1930`s by the look of it, M45 maybe, smarter minds than mine will know!
Ruby Anniversary for a ruby (Dubonnet Rosso) coloured car bought in April 1981 from Robin Hamilton, restored, for £5500. There was a DB5 for sale from Roland Duce for £3500, not restored but on the road.
Thems wos the days!
Apart from Aston Engineering fitting a ZF box in place of the awful auto in 1986 it has done over 50,000 trouble free miles

I still have a grudge against them for putting me off it!

I was 27 at the time and a new Ford Escort XR3 was about £5400 in 1981
My father told me not to be a damn fool, telling me he had just spent all this money on my education and he expected more wisdom. In about 1987 when the prices began to take off I overheard him telling his brother “That son of mine is really quite astute” but he never said anything to my face
In about 1989 there was a crash and I heard him telling his brother “ That damn fool son of mine should have sold that car when he had the chance, when I think of all the money I have wasted on his education!!”
The point is it was never about the money, all about the cars which I still love and hope never to part with

It has always disappointed me that classic cars became investments, the rise in prices lifted them beyond the reach of most enthusiasts - but that's the market! My father told me not to be a damn fool, telling me he had just spent all this money on my education and he expected more wisdom. My parents love my DB9 and never miss an opportunity to have a ride in it with me. I wonder what they'd have done if I had bought that DB6 all those years ago, I suspect they'd have been equally happy to be driven about in it.
