Asking this on behalf of my uncle, who is interested in changing his car for a DB7 V12 Vantage. He's currently got an immaculate 20k mile E46 BMW M3 CSL, and would therefore have whatever that would sell for to spend. Let's say £30k.

He doesn't race about the road and never does any track days, so the CSL isn't really ideal for him (he only bought it because my dad owned it beforehand!). He's always loved the DB7 and thinks it will suit how he uses his car much better than the M3.

What are the servicing costs / intervals like and I'm assuming a good independent is just as trusted as a main dealer? Where would be the best place in Essex for maintenance?

Cheers!

I own two DB7 V12 and I am happy with both. The service intervals are 7500 miles or 6 months. Nearly everyone I know has one service per year or 7500 miles. allow £1000 per service. But a major service at 45K is £2500.
It is very unlikely that you will do more miles than that. The Aston is just so classy, the interiors are to die for and they age very well.

The Aston Martin owners club has a very good guide to buying a DB7. Look on the forum in the Bloxham (where all the DB7 were manufactured) pages. There are a few items that you need to check have been done before buying. If the cars is reliable then they are not too expensive to run. But repairs can be very expensive. So get the car inspected unless you really know what to look for. Go for a V12 and your £30000 car will still be worth £25000 in 5 to10 years time. The V12 is more expensive to run but the extra power and smoothness is well worth it.

My advice is, buy one, there is no car that compares.

+1.

If you can get over to Chiltern: http://www.db7centre.co.uk/. They always have a few in stock and they're a good rule of thumb to measure others against.

Check front tyre wear and geometry - the geometry on the DB7 seems prone to going out of alignment with subsequent tyre wear problems - usually offside inner edge.

David - take a look at some servicing schedules - www.supercarhub.com dealers are getting to grips with standardising on certain Aston's, so hopefully this helps

Um. As long as your dad fits in the fricking thing, of course. I'm 6'3" and the missus is 5'5" and neither of us could get comfortable behind the wheel. Lovely car apart from that, though.
