Hello

I have a few questions re the Aston V12 Engine.

Anyone done an engine upgrade from an earlier engine V8 to the V12.
Is their a workshop manual available for them, CD Version would be fine.
Is the engine neutrally balanced, I will have to fit a different flywheel. Could be painful if the flywheel/torque converter is loaded.

I am considering installing the engine in another car, Lola T70 Replica, a modern take on the T70 Aston if you like. Unlike the stuff I have done in the past their is very little info in circulation on these engines.

Thanks

Joe

Hi Joe, first what model of Aston was you considering as a donor, as there are variations, you can get workshop manuals from Aston Martin tech site they are downloadable, if you wanted to look at a engine that is out of a car we currently have one so would be no problem, or if you want specific info please let me know I am sure I can help

Hi Rick

Thanks for getting back to me, I am awaiting more info on what exact model it came from, heres some pics http://silicon.fastnet.co.uk/specialist-car/php/ob...

I really need the wiring diagrams for the engine bay and ECU looms.

I will need to get an adapter made for the bellhousing, I have heard that the engine uses a Ford stud pattern but a drawing of some sort would be useful, but will do my own if necessary.
I will then need to make a flywheel, no problem there, but need to know how the engine is balanced, I would like to think as its a V12 that it would be balanced internally, that way I can just balance the flywheel I have made etc.

Lots of minor details fuel pump pressure and flow rates.
Lots of sensor readings, just so I can get the ECU's working etc, I will try and use the originals unless the imobilisor circuits are really difficult to get round, had that problem in the past with other conversions.
Thats why I could do with a really good manual etc

Do the V12's have any week spots or inherent problems on certain models? anything I should look out for on the engine.

Thanks

Joe

Spark plugs and coils are a common issue. See the Aston Martin Owners Club site. Here is a relevant thread for this engine:

Wow a few pages on that topic, had a look through.

If thats all the V12 suffer from I will be well happy.
I was more worried about things like overheating, excessive bore wear, or other more major things specific to the AM V12 etc.

Thanks

Joe
