Looking at buying one of the above,I've owned a 1998 F355 and a 996 GT3 in the past, whats the general view, mine is F430, then GT3, R8 then DB9

I would say f430, gt3rs, db9,r8 thought depends on what your going to use it for. A Sunday morning blast, the gt3 would be best, but a car that's going to get alot if use, I would say the db9 is up there.

Some very different cars there. The R8 is a two seater sports car, as is the GT3 whereas the DB9 is more of a sports GT. Sort of like putting a marathon runner against a sprinter and asking which is better! Without sounding wishy washy they are all great at what they do. GT3, R8 V10 or V12 Vantage - now that's a question!!

Dont know your budget but what about a used DBS

Near £100K low mileage cars.

Clarkson seems to think it is the best car........ in the world

It is more of a GT than the others but nearer to them than the DB9

You sir want a V8 Vantage or better still a V12 Vantage.

The DB9 is a different sort of car to the others. It's a supremely fast GT car. The Vantage is more the 'chuckable' b-road blaster and would be a fairer comparison to the other cars you mentioned. The DB9 would feel heavier and less responsive than the others but consequently much more comfortable and effortless over a long distance.

However any Aston Martin is immeasurably cooler than any Ferrari, Audi or Porsche and the DB9 wins the contest hands down on looks alone. It also has a V12 which is worth a lot to me. I'd prefer a DBS but if I'm being brutally honest with myself I think the DB9 has the edge on looks there too.

F430, Gt3, DB9, R8.

The F430 is an 'event' from the moment you open the garage door & push the start button. Actually, you don't even need to start it! It's as much of an event at 50mph as when you're flat out. It is also a real drivers car. Think big Exige feel wise but with the hoonability of an M3. The Gt3 (997) is, maybe, just the purer driver's car BUT nowhere near as an exciting ownership experience IMHO - and doesn't really offer the same buzz as the F430 when driven slowly - and you do a lot of that in the UK. The Aston, is, well, just plain gorgeous, not a bad drivers car but more of a gentleman's GT. The Audi? Very very competent but exciting? Nope. Be honest - would having one behind your garage door REALLY do it for you?

Based on ownership of the Ferrari, Gt3 and Audi - the later for all of one month by which time I was bored with it. Not owned a DB9 but have driven several a good few hundred miles. Prefered my V8 tbo. Add a V12V to your list? Although even if you do it's still the F430 for me.

Various edits for usual crap spelling!

I cant speak to the F430 , bt of the other three, I would go GT3RS, R8, DB9. (I own an RS and have driven the other two in anger). I do think the RS is a minority taste though as it is more fun on a track than as a road car, wheres the others are far more comfortable and luxurious as well as being great road cars.
