Currently in a M6 and am considering a DB9 as a replacement. My key concern is that I love the power and performance of the M6 and whilst they are close (on paper at least) the DB9 is slightly slower (I would probably buy 2nd hand so would be looking at the DB9 pre the power uplift on more recent cars). Whilst I will over the next few weeks go and drive a DB9 I would value views from anyone who has owned / driven E60 M5 or a M6 and also a DB9 as to whether there really is a tangible performance gap between the cars.

All replies much appreciated.

I own both. Performance is very similar, but the manner of power delivery is different. The DB9 has more torque, so there is a little less need to change down to access the power band to accelerate. It doesn't have that"coming on cam" feel of the V10 when it goes through about 4.5k revs. In the real world, they feel very similar in terms of overtaking ability, i.e. acceleration through the gears in the 30 to 70+ range.

The DB9 never feels slow to me after driving the M5.

ETA: the TT" (automatic) DB9 felt somewhat less dynamic than the M5, still fast and powerful, but just more mature. The manual is much different.
