Wantanewv12, it would be nice to get a successful response from at least one fellow Aston! Am driving a black V8V, plate is 97RS, look forward to seeing (and hearing) you on the local roads!

Judging by this thread, it would seem there are plently of friendly AM drivers, just seems like we mostly live in completely different parts of the country! As for the rest, pity the fool...
Might be a little quieter than usual. I am pretty sure that I got caught by a mobile speed camera yesterday on the outskirts of Oxford heading south yesterday - forgot to take my road angel for the first time in 5 years furious
I was right - summons came through today. Dual Carriageway but 50 mph speed limit. Unfortunately speed is easy to take on board in such circumstances and I was clocked at 76 mph. Anyone with any experience of what is likely to happen. It has come through from the Fixed Penalty Unit but doesn't say that that is what I should expect.
Hopefully you will get away with 3 points and £60; but 76 in a 50 is the reason for the summons where the outcome is at the magistrate's discretion:

ACPO Guidlines said:
Magisterial discretion (level 2) maximum of:

1. £1000 fine

2. Licence endorsed - range of penalty points available

3. Disqualification

4. Compulsory re-testing
Good luck.

It is not a summons yet - it is the notice of intended prosecution of which a fixed penalty is one of the potential outcomes. I was hoping to hear that others had avoided a ban in similar circumstances if it progresses, as I suspect it will, to a summons.

In terms of the car I guess the GT3 I owned presented similar problems but during my ownership of 2 997's and an AM N400 I managed to avoid any offences - the road angel helped. On this particular day, probably for only the second or third time in 5 years, I forgot to take it out with me.
with a bit of luck just send the completed forms back and you will be given 3 points and 60 quid.more than likely this will be the case because you will be deemed to have assumed a delimit speed limit of 70 mph due to the dual carriageway.
I got done for 52 in a 30 zone which ended up in a court appearance (I sent in a letter as I could not attend on the day in question); 6 points and a £75 fine.I think it all hinged on the fact that it was 20mph+ above the speed limit (which might be the same in your case).

Good luck
i think 52 in a 30 is deemed worse than 76 in a 50.it's not an excuse but assuming a delimit on a dual carriageway is at least a reason.52 in a 30 and i guess you just have to throw your hands in the air and take it on the chin with no reasonable excuses(at least i did)!!!

Today i encountered another who gave me a wave in passing after id iluminated my high beam at the car..

Drove the Vantage to Silverstone on Saturday for the qualifying day. Came up behind a DB9 at one stage who promptly gave it quite a lot of beans so I'll take that as some form of acknowledgment. As we came to the High Wycombe junction on the way back another Vantage (green) closed on me fairly rapidly and courteously waved as he went by on the inside up the off ramp.

Ok i was on my way back from an afternoon in the pub, whilst passing through a small town i saw a db9 so i swung round and followed him a mile or so, after we parked up we spoke and admired each others cars, He invited me in to the pub he runs for a drink..so ist friendly owner.
Yesterday whilst on my way back from Scarborugh where we were road racing,i spotted an aston coming towards me,so i pulled my high beam stalk to get the drivers attention,in return i got a wave..
As the Vanquish is known as the ademiral of the fleet, sureley its expected to exchange curtacies from the rest of the aston crew?

Igeneraly find Aston owners to be a total different breed of people to TVR owners that ive met,
(on the whole they are more down to earth,) but us up North people tend to be unlike the souther types by the souds of it.

Try googal`ing scarborough motorcycle road racing, or olivers mount or cock of the north.

of corse it wasn`t in the cerbra or the tuscan or the slk or the z4mc or the monty.mind you the vanquish was sat as course car. Although i could of used em in the hill climb held there last week. Twas with 600 honda,1000 suzuki & 750 kawasaki.
Car racing is for pussies

I was driving my car when i saw the other Aston,

Another wave. Travelling through Chipping Norton at just before 17.00 today and, just in time, caught sight of a beautiful black AM convertible (too quick to decide if a V8 vantage or a DB9). He waved, as did I. Twice in a week. smile

Going from a TVR (99% waves back) to a Vantage (30% waves back) has certainly lost the 'family' feel of car ownership. I balance this out by still remaining a member of the local TVR car club.

I have a TVR and an AM. I think the reason more Tvr drivers wave back is purley because you both have something in common ie, you are both prepared to put up with and sort out all the little probs you will encounter with owning this type of car. It's called being an enthusiast. A lot of people who buy an Aston may not be petrol heads and have only bought an AM because thats the car that they think they should be seen in. These type of people really are'nt to bothered wether it's a porker, a jag or AM, so long as they think people will think they are loaded.

If that were true how did the AM Owners club ever get established. Surely by enthusiasts. If anything it has been ignored by the latest generation of owners. I have to admit that despite initial free first year membership and subsequent continued paid membership I have not been to a single event yet but that is partly to do with personal circumstances over the past 9 months. I am interested in sharing my love of AM's.

Dont get me wrong wantav12v, i am an enthusiast myself. I have also been to AMOC meets and shows, and a couple of events and have thoroughly enjoyed them. All of the AMOC members i have met have been really friendly and as big an enthusiast as any other club i have come across. I was refering to SOME of the people who have bought newer Astons.

Well I'm ashamed to say this isnt just with AM's

I've been driving a Maserati Quattroporte thing for the last 3 weeks. Coming through east Grinstead I see another one. The first in nearly 1600 miles of driving.

We are facing each other across the worlds smallest mini roundabout. I raise my hand in a manner acceptable to most. and nothing. He stared straight ahead even when his rear passenger was pointing at us.

Ona positive I should get my Aston back tomorrow so I look forward to being blanked by a better class of gentleman smile
