No rice burners allowed in Macars garage-only good 'ol British metal. The DB7GT seems to be edging it at the moment, timeless good looks rarity and good performance will complement the others. Now which colour to choose, they all seem to be blue/silver/grey. Were any made in a 'one off colour'?????

I have to admit that I do admire what Nissan have created. It's an iconic car that has trumped the previous GTR and provides a lot of performance and tech compared to cars costing up to twice as much. I just don't want one..

High days and holidays = any Aston
and minimal depreciation = DB7 (GT or Vantage) or Vanquish
£50k = Great DB7 GT or cheap Vanquish
Cheap Vanquish = Road to bankruptcy
Hence DB7 GT.

DB9 = Depreciation although Volante is a maybe (but have to have an auto as so few manuals around)
V8V @ 50K = 4.3v8 = Gutless = unhappy
the question is,however, how much time have you actually spent in a v8v?i think because clarkson and his little mate made comments about its grunt everyone and his dog repeats this "fact" as biblical proof.i think gutless is a bit over the top for this car.i've had a lot of (very)quick cars in the past and it doesn't leave me needing any more 99% of the time
I drove one of the very first ones literally from coast to coast in a weekend (Burnham-on-Crouch to Torquay and back)and have driven them in various guises a handfull of times since. On the M4 to Devon on a straight dry road a 4.3ltr Aston couldn't dispose of one of those Nissan 370Z things (no expert on Japanese cars so name may not be exactly correct). Even I can press an accelerator flat, so it's not a skill issue.
might i suggest a performance driving course??
See you at Silverstone on 22nd September?

Just found £50k in my sons money box, but which Aston to purchase. He, junior, says buy a DB9 whilst I am thinking Vanquish. So, which to choose?

DB9
Vanquish
Vantage V8
DB7 GT

Needs to be resistant to depreciation and will only be used high days and holidays. You guys will have a better view on the market than I, any suggestions gratefully recieved.
Interesting to come back to this thread two years down the line.
If Macar had gone with the DB9 or the vantage V8 he would have a far from rare car as there have been thousands more made in the past two years. Not like the old Newport Pagnell days when only a few hundred were made every year. Again with the DB7 GT would you get 40-50k now. The only car you would stand to get your money back would be the Newport Pagnell one. There were only ever 2500 made during its six years of producion.
I hope he went for the vanquish. I know a lot will jump in and say that it all depends on the reason for getting the car and that is very true. But if I had bought a Vanquish then I would be feeling a lot happier than I would if i had purchased any of the other options. It's also by far the best looking of the lot!

There was 2,589 Vanquish made.
Vanquish would undoubtably have cost significantly more than a V8 Vantage to service over the same period.
Vanquish not as reliable as a V8 Vantage.
The Vanquish's holding their money are the Vanquish S, especially the post 2006 with the updated interior.
There are a number of ~£50k Vanquish up for sale, which have been for several months. So, its a strange market for Vanquish, they appear to be holding their value from viewing the for sale ads, but they don't seem to selling. Normal market rules would suggest they are over priced, but normal rules don't apply to the Vanquish market.

Having said all of the above, the want is strong in me for a Vanquish - hence I know how long some of them have been for sale.

The DB7 would probably be worth £30k now, the Vantage £35k and the DB9 £40ish..?

Sure the Vanquish would probably be worth what he paid for it, but what would he have spent keeping it running wink For £50k back then it'd have been a rough early car do we think?

Likely to be even all round I reckon!

Not so sure Mr Yeti......in 2010 you could buy an early Vanquish S for not much more than 50 k..........now worth 65-70k.......but as previous posts have commented you would have to have spent big money to keep it from falling to pieces ......slight exaggeration smile

Michael,

I think they are a little more robust than people think. I suffered from from the smell of hot clutch only during my first week of ownership. I have never smelt it since. The Vanquish is not the sort of car you can just get in and "off you go"! I have enjoyed letting a few of my petrol head friends drive it. I cant help smile as I see the sweat on their brow caused by the concentration required when you've never driven such a beast before.

have Aston really sold thousands in the last 2 years anyway? ...I thought they were on a 3 day week fora while and most cars are going abroad anyway

"How many left" shows about an extra hundred cars of each in the UK from 2010 to 2011....

Hi Phil, Small world. I've just looked at you profile, recognise your house and car and indeed you do. All these Astons in Scouse land and not a brick in sight!

Thought I'd clocked your fabulous vehicle Neil !!

Be good to meet with Mr Gould again - I've known him for about 20 years now - and his bro also has an Aston.

Common as muck round these parts smile
