I admit it. I've been lurking for 2 years now. Almost every day. Used to be Porsche. Now it's Aston.
- Kinda wish my office wasn't 1.2 miles from home or I'd have a Vanquish... or a DB9...

Hey ho.

I've learned that Aston's are quite reliable, Rick rocks, fuse 22, that even girls buy V12's, Black is the best colour, or maybe it's red, orange, but not silver...or is it? And there are so many shades of silver...

Genuinely, top stuff, keep it coming. One day...

- During the 08 credit crunch, when it was the end of the world, I was offered an 07 DB9 with delivery miles... Remember when Aston had a bunch built but unsold.... for £60k. I didn't take that. If we double dip, and I get that opportunity again, which I really really doubt will happen, I'm in!

Anyway.. All you lurkers, and I bet there are loads.... what have you learned?

In all seriousness the close proximity of your office to your house is a PLUS! these cars are capable of high mileage but hey if you can keep it down a bit it always helps for re-sale! Sounds to me like you should out looking to buy one, especially when the winter is here and the cars are available for alittle longer........like I said earlier - Go on, you know you want to!

Haha...I too am a complete lurker - I check the forum most days despite having never owned an Aston, though as you said I did come close in 2008 when there were bargains galore! I'm hoping for a double dip so that one of those gorgeous V8 Vantage's can be mine!! In the mean time...I'll keep lurking and probably won't post again for another couple of years when I finally get my grubby mitts on an Aston!!

PS - you forgot the magic fuse!!

Great post OP!

Well i did lurk for quite a while but I didn't have a enough will power to resist and I joined the "club" in February this year with a V8V.

Now I want a V12V biggrin

Hmmm, I lurked before making the decision to buy one, but sadly I did not even know about this particular forum then and ended up buying a Lightning Silver one - if only I'd known then that isn't the best colour. However, I'll put a notice in the window tomorrow to advise all of the people who stare at it of that fact to stop them making the same mistake wink Like others I actually work at home so look for every excuse to drive it, even going to the supermarket with Mrs S. Double Dip be damned, take the plunge, you'll always regret it if you don't!

Dont let the lack of decent roads or mileage put you off buying one. I live in a country with only one city, no decent roads outside of the city and nowhere to drive to anyway. Like others have said, you will make excuses to get out and drive it, even if its only round town.

What have I learnt?
There are people who are in denial about the sportshift gearbox, it detracts from the car and I wish I had a manual.
That my Vantage is still the best car I've ever owned by a mile. it's so much more than my previous 997 in every way apart from the Tiptronic/PDK/Sportshift comparison.
That my dealer is abysmal compared to the service people in the UK get. moan
That an umbrella is a waste of time in the desert but I still show it to everybody who wants to look round the car laugh
That I desperately want a DBS or V12V!

I too lurk. I've been observing Aston Martin world from the comfort of my office for the last year or so to help collate information for my dad. He bought a new V8V a couple of weeks ago and loves it so we'll consider it lurking worthwhile. Having been to Millbrook a couple of weeks ago I'm fortunate enough to have driven the full range for sale at the moment and love them all. Thanks for having me!

I, too, am a lurker on this forum - I had a 1978 Aston V8 for a few years and then I had a 1968 DB6 for a few years, but have not owned an Aston for 17 years now, and to be honest, the modern Astons do not really appeal to me enough to buy one, but I like to read this forum anyway !

Yup, I'm a lurker - though I rarely chime in.

I'm after a V8V but I'm getting married next year and think I have to move to make space (double garage) before I'm "allowed" one.. heh. I can wait wink

Guilty. I first started reading the AM forum because I was considering swapping my Granturismo for a Vanquish. For reasons I won't bore folks with I am on the verge of trading up for a Granturismo S instead of the Vanquish, but I have become attached to this forum. The AM owners who come on here seem like a great bunch and I enjoy reading about the various joys (recent SE meet organised by Lady Topaz) and travails (DBS wheel wobble) of the AM ownership experience.

I looked on here for a few weeks, went to see a Vanquish 2 weeks ago and my deposit is down!

I'm even moving our offices closer to home to keep my mileage down ha ha! (it's closer for most of my team too - before I get accused of being selfish)

biggrin

There are a few things to consider for you Lurkers??

I've just sold My TVR Chimaera, which I owned for just over three years. I had a Porsche 944 S2 before that and what appealed to me with those cars was the fact that I wanted to look after the cars myself with the odd specialist /dealer service for the history.

Forget this if you want a DB9, DBS, or any of the modern era of cars.
If you have enough £££ then you are lucky and will be able to afford to run the car, without any worries !

I've just picked up a 1995 DB7i6 67k miles and I'm the proudest man in the world in my little head.
I bought the car with 1 years warranty, with an option for the second year, which I am intended to take up if my love for the car continues.
This car is mostly Jag based, and is easy to service. Jag based suspension, brakes, bushes, gearbox, engine, ford switch gear etc, etc.

This is not the fastest car in the world, but bleive me, it is the most beautiful looking car that money can buy. Which ever way you look at the DB7, you just can't find a bad angle to look at it. It is just as pretty looking at it from the back as the front !!

And best of all, for all of you that like to do the odd job on the car, the DB7i6 is straight forward to work on if you have a limited budgit.

Good luck to all you Lurkers, just make sure you get a warrenty !!!

Pat.

Lurkers welcome, weird or otherwise.

I imagine for many of us it was an early step towards ownership... biggrin
