Well as my V8V approaches its first birthday the insurance renewal came in yesterday and what a massive rise (no claims, nothings changed during the year). I gather from press articles that motor insurance generally is going up because of all the no win no fee cases and fraud. Anyway, whatever the reason my premium went up from about £540 to £970 (Admiral multi car, each of the cars has gone up significantly).
So, settling into the long task of checking around other providers online (for all four cars) just wondering if anybody has any recommendations for Aston insurance - many of the larger companies won't quote for this class of car sadly. I'm getting quotes varying from that up to £1900 at present, I appreciate all sorts of factors come into account when they calculate the "risk", but maybe somebody has fouund a "gem" that are better than others?

Admiral dropped £400+ after I had a quote from Elephant, after all "we're the same company"!

My Admiral multicar policy went up at renewal time ... and then went down when I phoned them and told them I thought they were taking the p*** and I'd got some cheaper quotes ....

Oblio,You've done well.I've lost the will to live trying to obtain a quote from said insurer,I tick all the right boxes, over 50,no points or convictions, low mileage,no commuting, secure garaged parking etc etc etc.All that said
wouldn't you expect a quote or return call without the need of chasing within a week in this modern techno age or
do I expect too much.Sorry if that's turned into a rant but they do my head in hence I would suggest the OP trys
A Plan.
Just as a foot note Aviva direct were the least expensive quote tendered during my last quest for cover, but sadly
they left me nervous over their approved repair policy as in the event of damage I would expect that an Aston Martin
workshop or body shop would undertake the repair. This the very pleasant young lady seemed to struggle with and could
not at that point confirm that this would indeed be the case.

There was a item on Watchdog tonight regarding the increases in insurance, especially Admiral.

I am with Lockyer Insurance, who's MD is on PH (insurancejon) and there top guys.
Wouldn't know how much just for the aston, as its part of a fleet policy, however when i had it on my own insurance it was costing
£1800, based on 2 years driving, west London living, 24 years old and one claim.
Look else where springs to mind.

ok quick update for comparisons although i appreciate everybody is different:
over 50, good job, SDP only, 3000 miles AM tracker, wife as second driver, 14 yrs NCD, no accidents convictions conditions etc. MY 2010 V8V.
Admiral have actually quoted less as a single car than there latest quote on their multicar policy so sounds like some kind of second year rip off there.
Post office £1099
Adrian Flux £1900
Elephant - site down
Aviva wouldn't quote any car over £75k online so need to ring them.
haven't done the rest yet but happy for more suggestions!

have you tried the comparsion sites like Go Compare, Confused.com etc.

Saved me £400 and dropped the excess down by £100 with the same company.

Sorry to hear that Ed frown

Its wierd isnt it how one person can have one experience and another the opposite? Every time I have rung them I have got through after a short hold; been apologised to for holding; have not always got the best price first time but when discussed this they have gone away and come back with a better price (and apologised for the hold again); paperwork has been efficient as well. All that being said I have not had cause to claim from them yet...

In terms of asking for a better price I have no problems with this as, tbh, that is why we shop around for insurance anyway. I appreciate that businesses need to make a profit so I have no issue in asking the question. That chap from moneyexpert.com was on Watchdog the other day saying how "loyalty sucks" (I'm paraphrasing there smile ) so I work on the basis that 'shy bairns get nowt!'

I think there is a chap on PH called 'Ash from Flux' who may be interested to hear any comments if you rediscover the will to live hehe

Personally I will be v interested to see how Messrs A Flux and Co shape up come renewals time wink

Used Bell for the past 2 years, got them off one of the comparison sites. Have just put a claim in with them, so far seem very professional. Wanted to send it to one of their approved bodyshops, asked if I could take it to an Aston dealer, no problem will need to get the dealer to quote to Bell, but I won't get the courtesy car.

I have just left A-Plan with regards to our Aston, they wanted £1260 for renewal and couldn't go any lower - I have just re-insured with Admiral for £702. It all depends on your insurance profile I guess.

I just renewed on my previous car with Admiral and it went down on last year by £100. Have a quote for the Aston with them too and it's completely reasonable (up 50%, but car is 50% more valuable, and more powerful)

A-Plan will usually go lower if you have a better quote. Although they probably won't be able to reduce it by £500! They were very accommodating once I said I was leaving as I had had a better price elsewhere.

A-Plan weren't the cheapest last time round but were competitive and I decided the extra cost was worthwhile for peace of mind. My recent renewal quote shows a significant increase despite another year of no claims and no convictions. They have responded with a slight reduction when I found a significantly cheaper quote from the Post Office/Aviva through a price comparison site but still nowhere near low enough. I am on the verge of changing but comments here re restricted choice of repairer concern me. Is it normal for a major company like Aviva to restrict access ie not allow access to AM aproved channels and dictate alternative channels ?
