Hi,Wantanewv12,
Ditto your findings with A Plan as after a brief skirmish they lowered their premium to a slightly more acceptable level, but only after I had used the Aviva Direct terminology.
Like you peace of mind was a major concern as I spoke to 3 different representatives at Aviva over the course of a
week whilst on the quest for cover, none would or could confirm that an Aston Martin repair centre was on their list of repairers. However one young lady did promise to check it out further and ring be back the next day, needless to say that call never took place.
Now what was that phrase?,oh yes thats it peace of mind.

Post Office/Aviva quote is £768 for V12V for 12000 miles for wife and I, 60 days europe, business Class 1, courtesy car, no claims protect - hence dilemma. Interestingly offers 3 year gaurantee on authorised repairs - sounds like I need to probe further.

Interestingly, when I was searching for quotes, I got a cheaper quote from a few insurers if I added the wife onto the policy!

I already had a policy with A plan on my RRs and took the Aston insurance with them also. I had made a (my fault) claim under the RRs policy and A plan were excellent.

I could of got cheaper insurance with Swift (with those crap iggy pop adverts)but the online experience didn't inspire me or make me feel confident should my poor driving neccesitate another claim.

thanks eveybody for suggestions, I got sorted - admiral again multicar got the V8V dropped to £580 for me, wife, PNCD, business use, that was a £400 reduction - also managed to get other 3 cars significantly reduced too. Basically their call centre told me to reaccess the multicar website and they would meet what it said.

Jobs a good un, appeciate your input. smile

A-Plan weren't the cheapest last time round but were competitive and I decided the extra cost was worthwhile for peace of mind. My recent renewal quote shows a significant increase despite another year of no claims and no convictions. They have responded with a slight reduction when I found a significantly cheaper quote from the Post Office/Aviva through a price comparison site but still nowhere near low enough. I am on the verge of changing but comments here re restricted choice of repairer concern me. Is it normal for a major company like Aviva to restrict access ie not allow access to AM aproved channels and dictate alternative channels ?

I have had a car repaired by the A-plan "approved repair" process, I will not go into details but suffice to say I traded it in literally within 24 hours of getting it back (having been without it for two months) it was not good, not quite peace of mind!

I'm looking at going to Admiral for my renewal. They have quoted £681 against my current ensurer which is £1045.

Anyone have experience with them , I've checked the policy and it states you may use a non preffered repairer but will lose the free courtesy car, but otherwise looks ok.

Be good to get some feedback before I leap though.

I'm with Admiral at the moment. £5600 per year, but the service has been good. They were also the cheapest by far.

I've got both of my cars with Admiral on a Multicar policy but admittedly have never had to make a claim. However versus the next cheapest insurer I save around £1-2k per year so it's a balanced risk should the be difficult. As with any company you will find bad stories if you look but on the whole they seem fine.

Admiral dropped £400+ after I had a quote from Elephant, after all "we're the same company"!
I have a friend who does that every years and alternates between them laugh

OP Ironically I have just done exactly the opposite to you!
Locktons/Chubb wanted increase mine from £970 to £1490 "because everything has gone up by at least 25% sir!!"
Haggled with Admiral on a multi car and got the AM for £780!

IME it pays to shop around every single year

Sorry to hear that Ed frown

Its wierd isnt it how one person can have one experience and another the opposite?
Not really.
They like to keep customers so took the risk on your car but not on ED's as an unknown risk. I had the same with them when I had my 420 BHP S2000, they were happy to keep my risk for 3 years on a highly modified sports car but ran a mile from new owners because the new guys had a habit of driving through hedges backwards!

It is the other way round with some customers mind you - A plan have lost my business in the last 24 months as they simply stopped being competetive - I was insuring four cars at once through them for some years.

Yep - when existing customers get stupid renewals and they will not reduce it because they don't like the risk, that customer will go else where and never return!

I really don't understand why you would pay that much for insurance and only drive the car for 1500miles per year??
Could you not get a limited mileage policy?

I pay it because I want the car.

That is on a policy with 2k miles per year, social, domestic and pleasure excluding commuting.

Only do low miles in it because I don't really get the time to drive it that often, maybe a couple of times a month. Also I don't really drive it in the winter, usually tucked up under it's cover from November to March.
