I have no idea what the cost of just the lightweight flywheel would be while retaining the original single plate clutch if it was in good shape?
Don't think they're compatible Dean as I'm pretty sure the friction plates are different diameters.

Have spoken with Mike a couple of times regarding a custom project I am doing. Cannot praise Mike enough (particularly his patience with my novice experience!). His knowledge (particularly regarding the Vantage) really is impressive.

@cypriot, they have a Youtube channel which I think answers a lot of your questions
Hi !

Thanks for linking Bamford Rose Social Media channels. Putting up with my wooden delivery in-front of camera aside, if anyone wants a specific subject covering, just ask!

Mike, thinking about V8 Vantage 4.3 performance, I was wondering which would be the disadvantages of an airbox with openings identical to those in the Power Pack airbox, but which were continuously open instead of opening at 5000rpm (therefore not requiring the vacuum line nipple in the intake manifold).

I assume maybe a low-end torque loss, and noisier induction?
Hi.

It’s absolutely fine to delicately hole-saw the airbox in the same location the N400 valves are situated, affix a nice carbon fibre bell mouth and fine wire gauze to prevent rodents getting in. So yes, a permanently open ‘valve’, is fine, no torque loss, only the most critical of drivers will detect the induction noise. The only reason the factory needed a valved system was because open all the time would fail noise drive-by test limits, so surprise of surprises, the valve is open everywhere but within the criteria for the noise drive-by test.

If you haven’t seen these already, enjoy..!!

thank you for the insight gents... very interesting! I will have to make sure that my diary is clear towards the end of October then and make the trip up to BR! Might as well get the fast road geo done whilst I am up there so at least something has been done that trip...
Hi!

Pete doesn’t know it yet, but I’m going to tap him up to star in the next ‘customer and their car’ video, it’s a new feature we run on our Social Media once a month, the first customer is a 4.3L V8 and that video should air in the next few days. Any further help needed just drop me a mail with your number and I’ll get back in touch for a chat.

He does now!

My TV appearance lifetime achievements list extends only to being one of the people in a yellow overall making up the B of BP in the 1987 BP privatisation TV advert. Never too late for a career change though I guess. Rather hoping this features my car more than me Mike ........

Hi Pete.

Duncan who you might know? (4.3L V8 wrapped in Morning Frost) starred in our first customer and their car feature of the month. We ask some set questions about ownership experience and life with the car, easy and informal. We found it brings out some discourse about ownership and life with an Aston which forums don't / can’t ever do meaning it makes for a really interesting bit of info, you’ll do great! Thanks for volunteering!

Excellent! I already follow all your videos, so looking forward to seeing Pete's car! Thanks for your reply, and I will drop you an email soon to discuss various things... I am also interested to see how TGE's (that youtube guy who has an v8 AMR) car turns out with you, as it seems he is going full hog!

I have a 2006 V8 Vantage.

I am considering switching out the 2005 / 2006 era seats for the sports seats that became standard from 2007 on. I imagine people have done this but have not had much luck finding out if their are any unexpected roadblocks to doing so.

Would retrofitting the seats be a simple matter of unistalling the old seats and then plugging in the new seats or did the wiring connections change? I'm not interested in the memory function that became available after 2006 but would like the rest of the seat functions to work as they should.

Any advise / input would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi

Easy job to retro fit the seat you mention.
Small bit of wiring only (heated seat is 2 stage on the newer seat), might need a resistor in-line to stop airbag light, other than that, no fundamental stopper. Even memory function with a reflash of body module is simple enough as all wiring architecture is present

Thank you for the answer in regards to potential 2005 / 2006 Vantage seat retrofit Mike. I found an old post from you in response to someone trying to retrofit seats in his DB9 (which I will quote below) which seemed quite complicated to me and certainly not within my ability to accomplish. Do the things that you mention in that older post not apply to the Vantage as well as the DB9?

".....The old level seat controls were hardwired into the harness in a basic way (no control modules operating seat movement or heating), whereas the new level seats work via control modules. The different hall effect motors will not run hardwired. To retro fit in terms of mechanical fit presents no issue, and no issue also to power up control modules via harness, but, the body control module (CEM) will need a different config file to be compatible / talk to the new seat modules. A dealer would unlikely be able to acquire such a file as that config never existed in production - you would have to dispatch the CEM to a specialist indie who could code bespoke config files. I am aware of many cars that have had this exact retro fit."

Hi Mike,

Could you please tell me the jubilee clip size for the radiator hoses??

Aston martin calls them worm drive clips

Im replacing my radiator on my DB9 next month so getting some parts in for it, i already have the 4 new foam pieces.

Plus as my DB9 is now 15 years old do you think it is wise to replace the top and bottom radiator hoses??

Hi Mike,

I've been told by an unnamed Aston Martin Dealer that a 2010 Vantage doesn't have any suspension bushes and thus transmits more vibrations through the steering wheel than other cars. Is this true?!? I find it hard to believe that the suspension system has no bushes yet still remains very compliant. Many thanks.

Are they trying to use this to excuse wobble through the steering wheel? It is, of course, not true. If the wobble is not due to poorly balanced wheels then you have to start considering flat spotted tyres (has it been sat around for a long time?) or a buckled wheel. Mine was a buckled front alloy and has gone having bought a new wheel.

The trouble with this type of dealer bullst is that they are lying to you so there is then zero trust in the relationship which is therefore over.

Correct! There is some judder under high speed braking. They rebalanced the wheels and it has improved it by about 50% but there is still noticeable judder present. I wasn't sure if the technician was referring to a type of bush that when worn normally gets affected by braking which isn't in the Vantage suspension design or whether he literally meant the suspension has no bushes period!! Either way, it appears that he wasn't telling the truth...

Well if the judder/wobble is felt under braking then it's very likely to be due to warped discs. If they don't change them and just keep coming out with bullst then it's time to walk away.

I cannot understand Dealers behaving like this. Just makes them look like morons. Like when I test drove my first Vantage and the clutch was slipping. At first they said it was just because I wasn't used to driving a car like that rolleyes . They changed the clutch, I bought the car then never set foot in their premises again.
