The owner's manual contradicts itself: The 1st paragraph of service periods states " brake fluid is renewed every 12 months" then one page later under the chart with three columns shows Every 2 years to renew brake/clutch fluid.

I could not tell if the fluid in my 09 Vantage was flushed during the 1st year service conducted 6 months ago or not so I did it just in case.

I was told by the dealer recently it is every 2 years so they changed it whilst doing the 2 year service.

Rick, Thanks again for providing expert information. The reason I asked is that I just finished flushing 2 ltr of Castol response (hard to get in US!) and the fluid that came out was the cleanest I have ever seen. Usually the fluid is somewhat darker and some indication of contaimination. I bought the car from a dealer in Dec who performed the one year service and wondered if they flushed the system. Better safe then sorry.

I thought the brake fluid only absorbed moisture and so remains pretty clean visually. I could be wrong though.

My previous cars, Porsche 993, 997, Acura etc. The fluid after 2 years is somewhat darker (than the new fluid) and often show some sign of moisture.

The colour change comes from heat input, if you're not a hard braker it may not show.
What you cannot see is the moisture content.
IIRC most performance cars are every 2 years.

Should this be part of the service? I've just had a four year service done (£1200 worth) and they wanted to charge £130 odd extra for the brake fluid change - does that sounds right?

Depends what they quoted for, but generally no.

Just thought that if the manual suggests changing the fluid every 2 years, does that not suggest that it'd be part of every other anual service?!

Gearbox oil is changed every 4 years - and that was part of the 4 year service... I'm just a little bewildered.

What should a brake fluid change cost at a good indy? Derby is a bit too far for such a minor job.

What do you recommend for brake fluid? Motul rbf600 or will the Motul dot5.1 work for weekend driving? I don’t track my car. They are sold by the 500ml per bottle. How many bottles do we need?

What is the difference between the Motul dot 5.1
And the Motul rbf600?
