Have used pads from Halfords twice, and each time number plate soon springs off at each side due to bend in bumper. Not so in centre where pads sticks like st. Obviously I have not held it in place for long enough so just a caution to others.
Warm it with hot water or an air gun to bend it to the bumper profile. If you really want it to stay for ever use 3M body tape.
I always use heavy duty velcro on mine
From memory a 3/4 size front plate covers the holes. If you go any smaller you will probably draw unwanted attention to yourself from plod. I currently have a 3/4 size plate with a 4 digit registration number on my Vanquish and it looks fine. Most of the online suppliers can do this size off the shelf.

I've just got a 3/4 size with a normal (letter letter number number letter letter letter) reg and it covers the holes easily. Velcro to attach and I've a full sized plate just in case need to swap. The online plate company have even included the bs number etc. I can send some pictures if that helps
Normal size is 520. I can get legal size and spaced characters on 406 and 330 width plates. I'd like to go down to 330. Annoying my current reg plate is stuck to plinth so once I remove it id rather have the new one to go on! Hence I need to know the hole width without removing current plate!

I still don't get why people do this.
It doesn't look better than the factory mount - honestly, it doesn't.

My own preference is for mount removal, and for the top of the number plate to be flush with the top of the cross member.
I can give a reason.
The complete outline of that famous grille shape, is then visible without any interruption.
Only my opinion folks. 'Other opinions are available'.
The plinth is on the Vantage, but not DB9 or Vanquish. Could it perhaps be something to do with any regulation, about number plate height above ground level?
