Tyres for CTR?

I know this has been asked a million times but mine need replacing very soon and I was wondering what everyone else replaces those crap bridgestones with.

I want something that'll tell me when I'm about to lose the back BEFORE it happens preferably. I've been looking on various websites at the likes of Avon ZZ3 which appear reasonably priced. Other possibilities are maybe Yoko A539 or Toyo T1S. Basically I'm tight and want a good tyre that will last a reasonable amount of time (not a possible combo I know) and if possible offer a bit more 'communication' shall we say?

Also, anyone had any experience of going up from 205 to 215 width, saw a blokes CTR with these on at the dealership and wondered if it gives any more choice.

There's loads threads about this on the forums at www.civictype-r.co.uk

Toyos and Federals seem to be favourites, there are also Goodyears F1's but they are fairly pricey. Very few tyres have a sidewall as stiff as the RE040's which makes the car lose its pointyness and turn in response. However, the softer sidewalls do reduce the road noise a fair amount.

Personally I'll probably go for either the Bridgestones again or the Toyos.

I'm running 215/40/17 Toyo T1-S on my CTR and the road noise has gone up considerably. On certain surfaces it sounds like a wheel bearing has failed.

Other than that the wear rate is better than the RE040 grip is just as good in the dry with a slight loss of sharpness. Grip in the wet is orders of magnitude better.

One thing I have noticed is that the grip lasts longer too. RE040's are scrap at 5k miles IMO whereas the Toyos seem to keep on gripping until they're illegal.

All this about oversteering Type-R's - mine has never snapped out. It's always been very predictable and controllable, and very safe. Either you guys are running dodgy tyre pressures or being hooligans and deliberately provoking lift-off oversteer...!

Yup, That's it!!

Starting to learn a bit more about it though now. I used to do the hooligan thing but now I'm being a bit more progressive with the throttle and trying to just subtly adjust the attitude of the car mid-bend. What I used to find is that I'd floor it around a medium speed bend (big deserted round about on trading estates) then lift off and wait...but what I was doing was being a bit too ham fisted with the throttle and ending up with lairy tail out stuff that seemed to build slowly at first and then end up catching me out! I'm learning though and now I have nice controllable four wheel drift but I'd still like a little more feel if possible. ABP motor sport at Nantwich do a revised suspension geometry set up for £140 which they say works better but I'm a bit Dubious and would like ot hear others comments on it first

Again look on the civic forum for info. A fair few people on there have had it done and say it improves the handling and steering feel at the expense of the inside edges of your tyres (increased camber I think) and possibly the longevity of the steering rack due to increased loading.

Perhaps I'll give it a miss then. Don't mind tyres not lasting quite as long but a steering rack sounds expensive!
