An unusual comparison. I was in the market for an 86 but was also considering boxster/cayman, 370Z and Z4 - FWD hot hatches weren't and aren't in the equation.
I hope you find what you're looking for soon. thumbup

I saw one in the showroom for the first time on Thursday and have a test drive for tomorrow morning. In the flesh it looks the absolute nuts but £1600 for leather/alcantara seems pretty expensive considering how small the seats actually are! With metallic paint that will make it £27K!
I'm not really one for going all out on an interior. I don't care as long as its comfy and functional, but I really liked the Alcantara seats. If I do get one in a year or so, I'll be looking for one with them!

Well done. I know I ought to wait for the 62 plate but I'm too impatient - it can't come soon enough.

Take care adding bigger rims, you may knacker up some very carefully set up handling.I'd prefer wider rims, the shape would certainly take it,BUT, it feels so light on it's feet, I'd be worried I'd muck up the sweet feel of the car.Envious of those who've got one on order.

I don't know if this has already been posted, forgive me if it has...but this is the best car review i've ever seen - and i've seen thousands!

Nino Karotta crosses Europe in a GT86 to put it up against his AE86 on a racetrack.

Just make sure you don't check how much a 320hp M135i is, however challenging its appearance. That would confuse the issue.

Best thing to do would be to get rid of the Michelin Prius tyres and invest in some Toyo R1R which come standard on the Evo 10.

Halfway house between the T1R and the R888

Why?

All the reviews say that it has too much grip for the power, so why fit even sticker tyres?

Do they? The reviews I've seen have pretty much concluded grip is about right.
They do suggest any more would spoil/change the character detrimentally though, to the purist who's bought into the new ethos anyway.

Well I'm mainly going by the in depth review by the Spanish guy driving across Europe posted in another thread. He basically says that despite the Prius tyres, you have more grip than power and need to coax it into sliding(handbrake, clutch kick etc) rather than just tramping your right foot mid corner to get slip angle.

To me that says more grip than power. If you could unstick the rear mid corner to a decent slip angle on power alone I'd say it had more power than grip but that's not the case.

In no way is this a criticism. smile

It just seems strange to me to add more grip to a car that is supposed to be about being adjustable on the limit.

Anyway, hoping to get a test drive shortly smile

I agree. It's being brought to market with an expectation that some buyers will modify them, but to add more grip without ramping up the power/torque/whatever is missing the point IMO.
I'm sure north of 250BHP more grip would be required but to have fun in a RWD 'sports' coupe with 'just' 200BHP grip needs to be rather lower.
