MR2 Mk2 3S-GEE Clutch change advice
Discussion
A predicted - clutch has just started slipping (123k on the original is not too shabby really though, I expected it when I bought the car a few months back and it was very high.). Went a bit soft changing 3rd-4th and in 4th or 5th if you plant it, it will slip, not a lot of life left in it, but I'll be able to nurse it to next weekend.
Question is - where the best place to get one from, and is there a preffered brand?
How much swearing am I going to need to do at it while fitting? Doesn't look tooo bad, like a FWD car really.
Don't have a ramp but do have a nice indoor garage with plenty of tools, so a steady weekend job i reckon.
Anything else worth changing at the same time while its all out? Annoyingly its just had gearbox oil so that is a bit of a waste.

I had a garage do mine quite recently. Cost me £350 all in, but it was an absolute pig of a job apparently.
As for clutch brands Exedy are decent. National should be alright too, but I can't comment not having one fitted.
I've heard stories of bluepoint clutches dying quickly, so avoid them like the plague.

PW probably too far for you but how about Pete at sbits in Barnsley?
Heard mixed reviews, and its still not THAT close - if I was paying someone to do it, I've got a good local indy just round the corner. However, the difference between ~£80 in parts or ~£300 all in is enough for me to do it myself!
Done a bit more reading since, sounds a bit tricky but I have a garage and all the kid so it should be ok.

I think the going rate £250?
I think pacific works have the price on their website.
The labour cost is a lot less than that.I think pacific works have the price on their website.

It might be for a run-of-the-mill garage which is unfamiliar with a Mk2 MR2, but not for a specialist. The problem is that there aren't that many of them.An Exedy clutch (genuine not an e-bay copy) will be ~£100, so the total cost should set you back less than £300 - more than that and you're paying for somebody's coke and hookers.

Like, none around Hampshire way. Perhaps it was a little expensive, although it was cheap compared to some of the (~£600) quotes I was getting. I know the garage in question and trust them. Gassing Station | Japanese Chat | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
