Always liked the look of these, and whilst not being the best performance wise (only 163bhp from a 2.5 V6) I feel at this age now they should be a bit of a bargain for a cheap runaround.

I understand they are essentially a Ford Probe underneath - but how much is probe? All of bar the body panels?

Lastly - Anyone got one for sale? hehe

Chassis etc are the same, engines too. The V6 is very nice and smooth, you can turbocharge if you really want to. Also there is a Japanese version of the engine with more power which is almost a drop in replacement. Plenty of info out there, there's an MX6 owners club and a Ford Probe owners club.

The Jap-spec with the KL-ZE V6 makes 200bhp, the Probe (and various other Mazdas and Fords) got the KL-DE 163bhp version. IIRC its the same block but difference heads.

I don't know anything about how they drive, but the KL-ZE is a nice rev-happy engine that would be great in an MX5! hehe

It's almost a drop in for the MX-3 as they had the smaller 1.8L(?) V6.

It's not a Ford Probe underneath, the Ford Probe is Mazda MX-6 underneath.

The 2.5 can be dropped into the MX-3, all it needs is the MX-3 manifold fitted with the MX-6 injectors.. oh and uprated brakes.

Technically neither, it was developed as a common platform as far as I'm aware.
