Back on the road now. Couple of hundred £s worth of bits, 9 hours labour. Straight on the credit card, naturally.

Car back for a tinker by the mechanic . Heart jumped in my mouth when oil pressure needle slid to nil other day. Happily I'm told it's the sensor.. not that I'm paranoid or anything now. Will take several months of (hopefully) trouble free fun driving to get confidence in the car I reckon (wouldnt matter too much if pockets were deeper I suppose).

Meantime I've ordered meself some nice leather care stuff to add to the dozens of products already got in the shed (from TVR days). Also took great, sad pleasure in taking the seat recline gubbins covers off & cleaning all the dusty crap away. Found a few ££ in loose change.. way hey (if only found several hundred more hah)

When I gave my car a full valet before I sold it, I found about £20 in £1's and 50p's. I think its because the seats of the MK1 MR2 are quite reclined.
Very comfy though.

Glad you've got it sorted.

ton of rubbish under mine now. Need to work out how to get the hoover down there.

So far apart from the engine everything that has gone wrong with the mr2 has been small. If it had been the rover every time I had to take it to the mechanic it was a £700 silencer bearing instead of the mr2's £15 plug a leak in the indicator fluid pipe. More fun to drive too, although that rover was a tardis for moving anything large...

Hi Edt, that’s a nice looking MK1, bit different to the Griff ah? I picked one up in November to replace my 320i, after picking it up in Manchester the oil pressure gauge dropped to nothing, I stopped at the next services and checked the oil level etc, all seemed ok so carried on. Once I got home I found the oil pressure sensor wire had come off, clipped it back on and it all fine. Mine needs a bit of work but I didn’t pay much for it and came with good service history, new tyres etc.

Not had much chance to drive it due to medical issues but hopefully will be better soon and can get out and enjoy it.

It was the sensor that had packed up.. didnt cost too much. Had the wheel alignment sorted too.

Goes around roundabouts faster than my 500 did ! It' got non standard wheels that grip like hell

I noticed that from the picture in your profile, mine came all original even down the to the Toyota stereo, I’ve changed that now though, just wondering where to mount the CD changer.

I need to replace the front drop links from the anti-roll bar as I’ve got a clonking when going over bumps.

In a MK2 I've seen the CD changer mounted in the front luggage area. Or you could mount it behind the back of the passenger seat on the bulkhead. Thats where the one in my MX5 is.

EdT, the wire clips onto the sensor at the front of the engine, next to the oil filter.

Munter, I did consider putting it under the front bonnet but might end up putting it in the glove box if it will fit.

Good to hear, mine needs a pair of sills, took the plastic side skirts off to attend to what I though was a small rust hole to find massive amounts of rust, I’ve been told MK3 escort sills will fit with a small amount of modding so might have a go.

Please let us know if the MK3 Escort sills do fit. I'd be very interested.

Thanks,

Robert.

Well the sill section fits fairly well with just a little bending, there is plenty of metal left to make up the triangular bit in front of the rear wheel arch, although this is easier said than done, having to do it again I would use the escort sill then buy a arch kit from the mr2 owners club.

Thanks for letting us know. I'm working my way back along the car (replaced the wings, bumper bar, front sill sections etc) and will be welding the sills very soon.

Have you found a cheap solution to rear quarter arch replacement or are you going with club panels?

Probably not going to bother doing the arch, the MOT tester seemed to think that the car was going quite bad underneath, said it should last the year but not much longer than that, shame but means I’ll keep it for the year but won’t spend much doing it up as planned.
