Agreed,a car specific plate seems much more desireable,I would supose that a good one may add to the overall desireablity/value at sale time.

Really depends on the car and the actualy 'plate. If it's related to the car, that's great for that 'factory/motorshow' look, and if it's a cool word or name, like 'D3VLL' on a Diablo or something, it's cool.

I think ones with your name on them are a bit egocentric though, too 'look at me', not enough 'look at the performance'.

I think they're OK if they are clever and don't require the use of dodgy type fonts and 'adjusted' letters and numbers to work.

On my Scoob I used to have an SRT number plate - means bugger all to most people, but this is what Subaru use on their rally cars (Subaru Rally Team), which used to get a lot of comments when I was out spectating. I also got loads of comments from other people saying 'your name is Chris, why have you got SRT on the number plate?'

I think most people have heard of the TVR with UR02SLO (I think owned by someone on Pistonheads) which is great. I also spotted RB 52 EVO ('RB5 2 EVO') on an Evo (surprisingly) last week. Again, this means bugger all to most people, unless you know your Scoobs, then I think it's quite cool.

X0CET spotted on a jet black TVR Chimera a while back looked great too!

Couldn't come up with anything for my new RX-8 ('RXB' which a lot of people have, doesn't really do it for me), so I haven't bothered as yet.

'Because other people might actually want to buy the car'? I often wonder what happens to the 'personal' numberplates that stay on the car. I know of one guy with an MG BGT with a numberplate that ended in STU (not personalised, that actually harmed the resale value, because what's the point of driving around in a car with someone else's name on it? I know most personals are retained, but what about the 'accidental' ones?
