I actually traded my 6 GSR for an RSX (RS 2) for some of the reasons you mentioned!

I also owned a R35 GTR for 4 years recently and it would NEVER EVER been able to compete with my 6 on the roads I like driving on the most!

We had an R35 at the same time as I had ( and still have ) my Evo, and would absolutely agree with this. The R35 is long gone, the Evo's still here........

Mine's been gone 5 months now and I couldn't care less, I've never once fancied another drive in it and don't have any memories of amazing drives in it, my memories are of having stupidly complicated instruments inside, being too big and too long geared for the Alps and not the right car to come DOWN mountains roads fast all day and amusing acceleration from speeds that most cars tail off from!

Also, in medium rain at motorway speeds it's almost possible to not need the wipers

I have since bought another EVO as well as my 6 RSX, we'll NEVER see cars like them again, manufactures don't NEED to make base cars for race cars like they did!

My memories of our R35 are also of it being massive, plus the ride was a disgrace. At an indicated 130mph it lifted me out of the seat on a straight autostrada in Italy when it went over a joining strip in the road. As you say, don't miss it one bit, and wouldn't thank you for the offer of another drive.

The only thing that's come close to moving me on from the Evo is our Lexus IS-F. It went about 5 years ago, andI still miss it.

Can't believe I left ride out, yes, leaving the seat over expansion joints at speed is pathetic, and when they are on a curve it's a wake up!

I considered fitting the Bilstien kit from Litchfield, thank God I didn't, the ride wouldn't have made enough difference to forget the other stuff!

OH......... and for a car that accelerates as violently as it does in the lower gears, the gearbox shifts aren't fast enough!

Hmmm, IS-F, interesting, I'm sort of put off anything with 2 pedals unless it's for wafting around in / long distance but still very interesting, I see EVERYTHING living in London but couldn't tell you the last time I saw one, I've seen more Aventador SVs in the past month than I have IS-Fs in the past 2 yrs

I'm usually the same for autos, but it suits the Lexus, one of the very few cars I've ever driven where I felt it didn't detract from the pleasure of using it. I'm usually a manual guy through and through. We had a couple of R8s, one R-Tronic and a later S-Tronic, and if it had been my choice alone, they would have been manuals. Just spoilt the experience for me.

I accept that there are exceptions depending on the nature of the car AND how nice the gearbox is!

WORST WORST EVER experience was the M3 CSL I had, really low mile, GORGEOUS car in lots of ways but THAT gearbox..............JEEEEESUS!!

If it wasn't for that alone I'd still have it, even the massive appreciation since I sold mine in late 2009 couldn't have made me put up with it!

Was that the SMG ?

Drove one on track at it was noticeably slow to change and intrusive to the driving experience, however the car itself was a bit of a yawn, so supremely capable that I almost felt like a passengersmile

Hmm, never driven one, just not a car that's ever been on the radar for me. I've got peculiar prejudices about German stuff. Even though I currently have a Porsche! It would go before the Evo, in my defence.

Involving, fast, capable, analog, annoying, frustrating, expensive, amazing.

Yes, the diabolical SMG, and there was nothing “wrong” with it!

I’d say NOWHERE NEAR as capable as an EVO, CSL was a pretty straight forward car RE handling, nothing clever, you definitely mean the CSL?

Great looking car!

RE the positive points of EVOs, it’s hard to believe they are as old as they are and are still so fantastic and relevant, to the point where it now has attributes no longer seen in cars, what drives me insane is when people say - well, they are a bit old hat now that we have things like the Merc A45 and RS3 etc

The negative points of EVOs have always been the same, it’s what comes of not having compromises and that’s why they have that extra something, why they come alive at 7/10ths and others start to come undone!

I mean capable in that it was stable with plenty of grip, but no dynamics. My Evo was an event, sharp, balanced, incredible turn in and fast. The BMW did the obvious bits of going fast and griping enough to make cornering fast, but it just didn't really give anything back. I'm sure it's lap time would be good, but it wasn't really fun.

Yeah it's quite hard to believe just how old the entire Evolution line up is. IMO they really lost something when Group A finished, as has been said they didn't have to try so hard with the road cars with WRC spec (Evo's 7-10).

I find modern fast cars so un-involving unless you're spending 6 figures, which is such a shame. I'm sure an RS3 or Merc A45 would give me good chase, or even show me a clean pair of heels on a dual carriageway, but every single day I'd take my 20 year old Japanese taxi.

And, you're absolutely spot on with the 7/10ths quote!

That's mine at Brands a few months back, the in-car footage makes it look so composed! laugh

Yeah, on a dual carriageway, great eh, really satisfying for the RS3/A45 driver!

One of mine has some more power so thanfully it’s ok in most situations but it’s not the point is it, as mentioned previously RE GTRs!

It helps that you are very smooth!!!

K20'd Elise/Exige thing, I think.

And hey, less of the 'hurtling'.
