As per the title really, my son has a 2006 276bhp (non GT pack) 350z, totally stock & is looking for an insurance quote that is not more than the value of the car!!

Does anyone have any recommendations please? He is 19 with 1 year no claims, are there any specialist insurances out there that anyone has experience of or would be happy to recommend. He's taken his time to find the right car & does not really want to have to sell it.

Any advice / help would be appreciated.

He has bought a high risk car at 19 without checking insurance first. All quotes will be high until he is in mid twenties with a clean record.

I wish you good luck anyway.

Sorry going to say at that age it's going to be tough, the insurance people were tutting because I went from 206bhp in the Jag Diesel to the 247bhp in the Skyline.

Have you gone to all the usual specialists? Sky & A-Plan are the guys I used on the Skyline.

Other guys I used to ring for it were:

Chris Knott
Keith Michaels
Greenlight
Paceward
Direct Line

Maybe Flux would cover him but not used them so cannot comment on the way the conduct themselves.

I had a 1991 MR2 at 19 and it was over £2000 to insure. Only 158hp as well, not even the turbo! Oh you'll be having fun!

Mind you the mr2 has more of a reputation for killing you to death really quickly with its "zesty" handling on the limit.

Be interested to see what his quotes come out given it's been a few decades since I got put over a barrel. Can't remember the company I HAD to use as they were the only game in town that would touch me, company name sounded a bit max power, be well out of business by now I reckon.

Good luck!

He bought the car & was on his employers insurance scheme, however about a month into ownership the employer has decided to terminate said insurance scheme as of September this year. So he bought the car knowing he could get insured (for a very good price) his employer has now pulled the rug from under him.

I think he will need more than luck......

Finally I can be one of those sanctimonious old bds who mocks the OPs cost and then replies with an unhelpful example of how much he pays.
Here goes, (sorry I've waited ages to do this, 14 years since buying my first car to be precise).

I just bought an 08 HR and with 4 declared accidents (forklift truck attacking my old 350Z, killing bambi, and two for my missus) insurance came in at £650. Only marginally more expensive than the bloody tax on the thing.

Anyway, pay it OP, the noise they make on starting the engine is worth the cost by itself.

im intrigued, what kind of job involves staff having privately owned cars that the company pays insurance on that would also allow you to use the car for non work activities.

Privately owned cars on a blanket company insurance where the only perimeters are cost of vehicle & engine size. However the company does not pay for the insurance my son has to pay the premium but as the company has negotiated that it is at a substantial discount. The trouble is its all pretty much irrelevant now as its being pulled this Septemvber.

I have had my 350z since 20 and remember paying 1200 with direct line. This was 6 years ago though....
