Friend of mine has just found out the '66 plate pickup he bought with 4,500 miles on it was sold with 4,500 miles on the TRIP computer and had actually done 10,500 miles when purchased.

Supplying dealer won't talk to him.

When they do, no doubt they'll say HE has run up the extra miles, unless...

...will interrogation of the Navara's OBD plug-in keep a log of date and mileage internally so that he can take it to another garage with the right kit and get confirmation of the mileage being 10,500 on the date he bought it?

He has paperwork from the dealer confirming mileage at purchase is 4,500.

If he can get proof it was different via the OBD plug-in, what does he do next? Ombudsman? Sue (for how much)?

Thanks for any suggestions. The key question is will the date/mileage be logged on the truck's ECU memory?

your friend needs to visit the dealer in question and talk to either the salesman or manager and explain the situation.

He also needs to have some record of the mileage that he has done in the car, fuel receipts x ave mpg would be a good start.

If no joy with the dealer then he needs to raise a case with Nissan customer services.

However, the price difference between a 10k Navara and a 4K Navara is probably £500. So that's what you are looking at in terms of compo.

I suspect it was a genuine if careless mistake. the trip records upto 10k, in most cars it's 999miles so to the uninitiated the trip could look like the odometer.

Go in smiling, look for a solution and put the guns down, you might get what you need.

oh and yes the mileage is logged in the ecu.
