Mazda 6 Mk2 Petrol (2008-12) Automatic Gearbox - Any good?

Hey guys,
I'm needing to get a reliable, practical and reasonably fuel efficient car as I'm we have a little one on the way.
After my EP3 goes, I think that the Mazda 6 ticks a lot of boxes (specifically the 2lt petrol). From what I can see reviews wise, it seems a great shout in terms of the above, however, I can't find much info out about the automatic gearbox in terms of what type of automatic it is / reliability etc (I'm ideally looking for an auto so that both the girlfriend and I can drive it). However, this might mean it's pretty solid if not many have complained about it lol?
Just wondered if anyone here has any experience with the Mazda 6 and the automatic gearboxes please. I'm curious what type of automatic gearbox it is and whether it's reliable (providing it's been maintained properly etc), how it drives etc.

Can't help on the automatic but we bought a 2010 2ltr Petrol Takuya earlier this year to replace a 2014 Audi A6 2.0 diesel (the emission cheat engine!). Must say that the Mazda is a great car to drive, maybe a little under-powered on initial 'go' and does need to work through the gears but far more involving than the A6 (though what isn't!). Everything works very well and very happy with the purchase.

My Dad has one, a 2009 2.0 Automatic petrol from 1 year old (the car, not my Dad).
Currently on 50k, no issues at all, the Auto box is smooth and only issue the car has thrown up is a dodgy window sensor. Had full Mazda SH until it was 5 or so years old and regularly gets serviced once a year at an indy.
Had full brakes and discs done for about £350 all in, Average yearly service comes in at around £150
The auto box doesn't have a sport mode, but it can be used sequentially if you wish to.
Cruises nicely at 70mph at around 2600 / 2700 rpm (I think, but might have to ask and edit that) and works fine around town returning 31-35 mpg , on a cruise it's into the late 30's to 40's.
2.0 Engine is slightly raspy in the high rev area but has good low down torque. Once the car gets rolling and up around the 50+ mph area, it is responsive and well behaved, quite a pleasure on a dual carraigeway. They waft along nicely without too much road noise and the suspension is forgiving but not wallowy.
In general the 6 is a good commuter and cruiser, not too heavy on fuel but it does seem to have an appetite for front tyres. Dad's gone through a set of front Bridgestones in 7k.
Back seats fold down totally flat with the pull of a lever, plenty of load space in there. There is no internal boot release though, it has to be done by a button from the outside.
Drivers seat frames are known to be weak, so double check them, also the plastic on the front light covers dulls off. The rust issues that plagued the former model have been cured now as well.
Mechanically I don't know if the box is sealed for life or not, but there doesn't seem to be too many reports on them lunching themselves. Auto petrols are not very common though, it took us about a month to find the one my Dad has now.

That's really good to know about the reliability side, very reassuring! I did think that the inability to find anything about them might be a good thing.
Don't suppose you know what type of automatic gearbox these cars use and what the expected service interval is for them too please? It's proving hard to find this info.
