Thanks, seems like a sensible solution. At the moment the exhaust is basically inaudible so a touch more noise wouldn't be unwelcome but I want to avoid it sounding too loud. I've lived the life with a decatted MX-5 and although it was fun at the time, I don't have any great desire to go back to that level of noise.
I'm basing mine on no carpets or any plastics and its not bad as I CBA with fart can sounding cars. Subtle noise when using the loud pedal otherwise very nice and sedate I was quoted £650 for a full system or £450 for just the backbox by my local Powerflow franchise, as it was a bit unplanned I decided to just get the standard exhaust repaired (by the same place) and see how I get on. If it needs replacing further down the line then a stainless exhaust will be the way forward.
Mine is definitely using oil, I can't see any obvious leaks and I changed the plugs recently and they seemed a normal colour. It's on 80k and hasn't missed an oil change so I have no reason to doubt the health of the engine. A couple of people on the FB group have suggested the PCV which I need to test but what other reason can there be, everyone I speak to says there's doesn't use a drop!

Anyone know the parameters for cam chain replacement? Amount if years / mileage ?.
Never. They last forever. There are people well over 100k on the FB group and cam chains never come up.

Good to know but I'm anal and would still want to do at manufacturer recommendations.
Suzuki say life of the car. Just out of interest are you checking valve clearances? I think the recommended interval is 36k miles but hardly anyone seems to check and if they do adjustments are very, very rare. I’m always trying to find out how regularly they need reshiming but the answer seems to be pretty much never.

It's got its MOT and service next month that's why I'm checking what it needs.
I'm at 51,000 and 6 years old in November It's never missed a beat.
I am thinking of getting a 31 for doing some sprints in the UK, roadgoing, no mods, just basic, seems to me dealers are sticking to about 3 grand but can be 2ish private mileage usually about 80k or more.
That old am presuming most issues are fixed, what are commons ones to seek out, am aware of gear linkage problems, but is there anything else common on older 31's?
Also tyres seem a bit restricted am guessing tyre size is basic 195/50/16, choice is a bit more limited than other sizes.
All I can do mod wise is pads, am guessing EBC are best

Not much to add other than I have seen a lot fail on rusty brake lines, particularly the rear ones as they run across the rear axle. Odd bottom end failures and gearbox whines, but they are not that common. Standard alloys can flat spot/crack if smashed through potholes etc. That old am presuming most issues are fixed, what are commons ones to seek out, am aware of gear linkage problems, but is there anything else common on older 31's?

The swift sport wears 195 45 17 tyres, most swap to 205 45 17 for more choice and cheaper tyres.
Albeit on a 32 not 31 I’m running EBC green which I’ve been happy with. They don’t have masses of bite when cold but have really nice feel as they heat up. I’ve also run their ultimax 2 which I don’t like. Too grabby and not much feel.
I’m on Goodyear f1 assy 5 in 205/45/17. Superb grip and feel wet or dry. If you haven’t run top spec tyres on a light car in the wet before, the Swift will really surprise you with the amount of grip it has. I’d say it’s more than cars on budget brands would manage on warm dry tarmac.
The 32 has shrouded hard brake lines so corrosion must have been a big problem on the 31.

Anyone with sense puts 205/45/17 on them. Way more choice and often like for like cheaper than 195.
A bonus is that you get a slightly better ride and pothole resistance.
The speedo is also slightly more accurate as it over reads with 195/45.
It should really have had that size from the factory, especially in the UK market.

I've no sense then, I've stuck to what suzuki put on, run the latest conti sports (it came on conti sports). A bonus is that you get a slightly better ride and pothole resistance.

Size aside the Conti option is well outclassed now. Michelin do the PS4 (maybe 5 now too) in the standard size. Although not the S version they will wipe the floor with Conti.Gassing Station | Japanese Chat | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
