I've got a little GTO, its only my second car but i really do love it.
Sure its not like having a skyline or supra because they simply have so much potential with their engines, but it depends what your after.
The problem with this car imo is that the V6 takes up a LOT of space and makes it awkwards to manover around, altho I have seen a 750bhp GTO, sounded great.
If you want a skyline, just wait for it.
One last thing, I think the GTO mk1 looks WAY better than a skyline or a supra and its a touch rarer, anyway make sure you get what your after.
They all rock anyway.
I’ve got a 94 MK2 twin turbo, and they are pretty awesome.
The reason they are cheap now is because there is allot of crap about, with importer dealers just bringing them in to make a quick buck, (how some of them pass the MOT is beyond me)..
I am not slating dealers by BTW.
Mine is an 80k miler and I have had to do a bit on her - still have the gearbox to rebuild.
Rear steering rack seals tend to go, as do rear subframe bushes & steering joints. Just had mine done earlier this year. Once the box is rebuilt it should be sorted.
They are pretty robust, and can take a pasting, as long as you service them frequently.
Remember that these cars would be in the region of £50k in today’s new car prices, so you shouldn't be too put off from high service / maint prices.
BTW, What’s with the GTOUK owners club suspending access to most forums until you have over 21 posts????

Due to a few unfortunate incidents they've had to restrict non-members to certain forums and impose a 20 post limit. If you become a full member you get unrestricted access which I'm certainly going to do when I pick up my 3000GT on Monday!
Contrary to the rather juvenile response earlier I've found them to be extremely helpful and would wholeheartedly recommend joining up.

Only a couple of the sections are viewable until you've paid £30, the main ones being the For Sale and the Traders sections. I think you can post up to 20 posts in there without paying (I was at around 30 before these rules came in so can't post anything).
The little I saw of the forum before it was locked down seemed pretty good and some of the Traders are really helpful eg. Jim at Route66. However I can't see myself paying £30 to view a forum. The Dodge Stealth sites in the US are just as good and probably have more information as there are more users. Also, at least I've seen the forum. Which new user is going to shell out £30 to view a forum which as far as they know might be complete cr@p?
When I first found the forum, i had soooo much info and a really good idea of what the community was like...If I had just bought one now, I'd be lost... I think its rubbish to be soo elitist and refuse to join.
I guess I would if I didnt have any experts near me.
Dunno, doesnt seem right to me.

It's definitely a strange policy and I can see the club dwindling as members sell their cars and new owners don't join.
Any tips on insuring a GTO? I'm with Adrian Flux and just asked for a quote. £350 for my modifed 200SX. £1175 with £500 excess for my GTO

When I insured my car I was 24 [earlier this year], 3 years no claims [only been driving 3], my second car... £1200 with "A Plan"
Yes your point about new members will come true, very sad imo.
Well I'm a fair bit older and full no claims and been driving more years than I haven't. Looks like I need to shop around as I've never paid more than £350 fully comp on any car. I take it that yours is the twin turbo version?
