Nicely done - seems like one of those fashionable Jap bashing comments that people like to spout just to be in with the crowd.

Backfired a tad!

Mmm. Because, and I don't know about you guys, but I find a wankel, a turbo boxer four and a screaming VTec all sound exactly the same.

Suprisingly yes - it's quite pronounced if you know what you're listening for.

The Wankel sounds like a cross-stitch Springer sewing machine, wheras those boxer engines sound much more like a Daewoo with auto cotton-reel feed.

I'll go and stand in the road and wait to hear one go past... I'll need to turn my hearing aid up though!

You'll have to stand very close to the road. Skylines in particular are very quiet.

I guess it's largely down to the main noise you hear on boost is the turbo shredding the air.

Off boost though they're all very different. I really like the scoob's burblybrappy note when it's on low revs acclerating.

n/a rotaries sound pretty special unsilenced as does the tickover of very large ported rotaries (sounds like a real racer and very lumpy).

It's quite hard from the driver's seat on mine to separate engine/turbo/induction and wastegate noises when booting it - it's just one big roar.

i noticed that @ Japfest, Evo's, Scoobs etc sounded all the same.

some honda's sounded very nice

It turned out to be nothing a new turbo wouldn't fix

Hitting standard boost now at least. Leaving it like that for the time being.
