A friend of mine who lives over in the US now is selling his Toyota Supra (last shape), UK car, manual 6-speed.

I am thinking of buying it off him and was after some information about the car.

Are there any things that I should be looking for? As the car is now 11 years old, will it be suffering in any way? Suspension, Engine, Braking System, Exhaust?

What are the service intervals/costs for one of these?

Basically any information that you care to divulge.

OK the MKIV supra is generally a very long lived car if maintained correctly. There are the standard things to check on all turbo cars, but in addition to those:

Suspension = the UK's are very soft, check the rear top mounts, and all bushings
Exhaust - Very quiet, mild steel, will rot eventually
Gearbox - rear seals leak if the wrong oil has been used
- The flywheel has a dampener that goes after time, these are £300+ plus fitting
Diff - The UK has a diff cooler which tend to leak over time, these can be removed and capped off.

Running costs are impossible to predict. There is a garage in Watford ( Phoenix 01923 228484) that look after many memembers of the Supra Club's cars, and only charge between £35-40 p/h. The cars will do 28 mpg on a cruise, and 4 mpg on a track day, so choose anywhwere in between dependant on your driving style.

There are other things to look for if the car has been modded but I would need an idea of whats been done first

It is box standard. No modifications, has done 72k miles and has been fully serviced by a Toyota dealer.

My other worry is how much of a handful the handling will be. I had an M3 Evo once and 321bhp was delivered very well and although body roll was a bit much the overall handling was great. The Supra is a leviathan of a car and looks like it would take a lot of effort when the going gets tough.

Are there any owners club websites worth a look at?

I think the Supra for a big car is awesome around the twisties, and can be modified to stay with an M3
