These are fantastic cars too: www.pistonheads.com/sales/65975.htm
They even say 'VTEC' on the engine bay. What more could you want?
What he said!
Owned one for 3 years, and it's THE best all-round car i've driven. I know it's got very little torque compared to a V6 or a turbo, and I know it's fwd. But:-
1) It doesn't drive like it's fwd - try one, just try one, it handles sublimely. And it's very communicative. And you can pratt around in the wet just for fun.
2) You don't care about the torque when it sounds like it does at 8k rpm...although an Alfa V6 is a hard act to follow.
It genuinely is one of the best driver's cars around, it feels just right when you're in it, and I'm going to get another one when I've not got a long-distance commute.
Any £8k performance car is going to have bills, and the 'teg is no exception. But it should overall be cheaper than a bigger, turbo'd car. Check the usual things - dampers, bushes, gearbox, differential...the engine, if unmolested and kept oiled, should be healthy enough - do a compression check, anything over about 250 is pretty sound, but make sure they're even.
Oh - cheap S2k's...get the suspension bushes checked out - if they seize it's an £800/corner bill.
[Sorry...went off on a 'teg rant again, didn't I?!? Must stop doing that! ]

I know this is Japchat but for the money what about a Mercedes SLK 230?
Jeez Louise! I think that was blasphemy!!!!!!
Yeah I know, but I've been looking at a few on the classifieds since LA pointed them out as a relatively undervalued car, they're alot less cash than I would have thought.
Btw surely you could pick up a Supra for about £8k these days???

Havoc is bang on the money. Honestly, after about 5 mins of driving you forget about whether it's got a turbo or not, all you'll be thinking about is that screaming 8400rpm redline. And the gearbox is great and the pedals are perfect for heel & toe. It's just a fantastic drivers car. I think everybody should drive one of these at some point just to see what FWD cars are capable of with a little magic.

Note to self: The S2000 IS the right car, the S2000 IS the right car...ah, who cares - I'll get another 'teg for the commute next year. 2 VTECs!!!

What about a TVR Chimaera
For 8k?
apparently for around £9k you can pick up a 4 litre V8 Chim
It'll be an old high-miler. Not sure I'd want to go to the 'cheapest' of a particular model...chances are it'd have been storing up bills, hence the price.
