Hasn't a 3SGTE got a fair bit of torque straight from the crate?

Thing about that particular V6 is its torque production; 100%@2000rpm all the way (well almost) to redline. Makes for a very potent motor.
Not only that its already got a full 1 litre headstart on the 3sgte with lots more potential with circa 35bhp just from headporting, 10 to 15bhp from the airflow meter being leaned off and a further 20 ish from the exhaust pipe merges being correctly fixed.

Now, where can i get one?

Of course, you could port and polish the GTE as well? Bit of a mute point. I still feel the #s GTE has more going for it than the V6. Just my opinion.

I have never found the time to do a tuned 3S-GTE but I thought that stroking to 2.4 was relatively easy?

Also, any details or sites of anyone sticking a Lexus V8 into and MR2?

Didn't someone in Australia put a V8 then turbocharge it into a mk2? Probably an urban myth...

LOL that would be a handful.

The V6 makes perfect sense for a trackday car. No worries about boost leaks, heat soak etc. I think it would be fun.

If I won the lotto, I'd have a mk2 V8tt built, with the TRD2000GT kit, in cosmos blue.

Its actually be more difficult to put the Lexus V8 into a Mk2 rather than a mk1 apparently, as the mk1 bay is wider bay between firewalls....... where as I would have thought the opposite. Putting it into a mk1 is no easy feat I would think though.......

are there any good links to a V6 swap into a MK2?. The more you think of it, the better it would be as a trackday weapon. If its is an easy swap it wouldnt cost too much either.

First one aint the best (some nice pics though),

www.bryanf.com/MR2/index.htm

This one is pretty excellent, with a almost walk through of the process. He also seems to be doing a lexus V8 swap into a IS200......!!!!

You guys definitely need to check out http://twobrutal.co.uk

that's where we cram everything into the back of a mk1 or mk2

The guy doing the V8 swap is Paul Woods - genius with these things... if anything a quick visit will satisfy your curiosities!!

The reason its a good swap for the DIY'er is that compared to the turbo conversion this is cheaper. The V6 is relatively cheap to come by, bolts straight in bar one engine mount (this is available to buy) and seems to run perfectly well with the standard NA clutch / gearbox (much easier / cheaper to come by than tubby gearbox).

Got any more info on that?

I'm thinking about an NA MR2 while mine is in for repair. It'd be nice to know there's a future there if I get a good one...

Um, that leads me to a thread where lots of people are REALLY laying into the MK2...

There doesn't seem to be much technical stuff in sight. Don't suppose you'd mind checking the link?

Al, yeah that was the right thread, but you will have to take a look through the forum to find more info. Dont think there is a complete write-up as such, but there is plenty tech info there somewhere.

That thread did take a bit of a negative point of view towards the mk2, its not taken seriously by anyone there though; reason being its more of a club for mk1 owners fitting either 3S-GTE , V6 / V8, and focusing on lightweight + big engine = very fast, mk2 is a bit bigger as we know, so noses are often turned up at the talk of using the mk2, so to speak. As I said, fwiw, its all a bit of banter.........
