Cheap Drift Car

Looking for a cheap car to drift but can't find anything up here in the North East.
It would have to be via a trader as I have a part ex too. If any one sees anything give me a shout.
Looking to spend upto £1500, for 200sx or similar.
Got a bit put off using the Skyline at an event I was at, at the weekend.

)My car is in excellent condition, and I don't want to strip it out to drift it, I just can’t bring myself round to do it.
I'm going to fit some buckets, and use it as my track toy and for some strip runs and keep it usable for normal road use.
At the drift session I was at on Saturday most people has older 200sx’s and some of them were taking a right beating, when Mrs GMan saw this she suggested I get a 200sx or something else to drift in, even she realised how hard it would be on the Skyline. We have an Alfa 146 that I want to get rid of so if I can use this as a part ex it will be ideal.

BMW E30 would also be a good starting point, once you've welded up the diff. try going onto www.driftworks.co.uk as it's full of useful advice on all things drifting.

I'm registered on this forum, so I have had a good read up on it.
I don't really fancy a BMW, as I have more contacts to get parts for Japanese cars.
I found the comments about the Volvo 340's and 60's interesting.
I was thinking about an MR2, but they seem to be hard to drift.
There was a guy called sideways rob who takes part in the UK championships and he used to drive an NA MK2 MR2, wasn't the best drifting machine but he did very well with it, and once you can drift an MR2 reasonably well you can take those skills to a better suited car and be really good, think he moved onto a 200SX afterwards and was doing great right from the off in that car.

Sounds good to me. I have seen a loads of cheap ones in the Newcastle area. Will look into it a bit more.

I was at the Eurodrift event at Teeside on Saturday and have really, really caught the bug.

Seirra, welded diff and a tuned pinto lump will teach you everythign you need to know, no need to spend big money on a starter drift car as you'll only worrk about spanking it, you'll also get through clutches like nobody's business and cheap replacements are a must when you're learning! Sierra is the easy solution, though don't get a saff as they're just too hard to drift.
I used to have a sierra saphire in my yoof, I loved it. First 'proper' car I had. Can;t remember if it was a 1.8 or a 2.0 though. Went ok, and was very comfy, especially for the pittance I paid for it. Saying that, I have a fondness for all my old bangers. Fiesta 1.1 pop plus, and my Escort with completely rusted away anti-roll bar... I wondered what that thudding noise was when I was bombing along the motorway!!

I've seen runners selling for as little as £200.

Wow, posts about Big ends and S13's seem to go hand in hand
when I said "runners" I meant driftable runners :rolleye:
For that money, you're going to be looking at a pup, but definatley driftable.
For daily driving runners, expect to pay from £600 ish upward.
B/E's cant be that hard to change on a golf can they?? How long have they been on the way out? As long as the crank journals aren't ovalled, you should be able to change the shells.
This guy (Jenkski) over on TIF Drifts his Soarer, and you could probably get a project car for under £2000. Follow this link to see an 18 minute video of his exploits.
