Most of you have guessed about right, initially in the learner stages you wan't as little traction as possible for you to get the basics. Then once your past a decent level you need a good handling car not much unlike any decent track car, speed is what we then use to initiate drifts & to get speed you need traction.

This is turn 4 at Rockingham into the Chicane, 110mph at the entry point which is 150m away! from the chicane (we went & measured it) You need a good handling car at these sort of silly speeds. And that's a very big wall on the right
