Nice car. very very nice car.

Yep, my favourite Impreza model to date. If you ever sell it one day, let me know

Like DNB, I spend more money insuring the Impreza than the TVR.
I also agree there are faster cheaper cars out there than the Impreza.
However, the Impreza has room for the kids, the kitchen sink, and the mother in law thinks its a proper family estate.......
On the whole, it is a good reliable family workhorse, that just happens to be pretty quick and good fun when Mrs Big Dunc is not with me.
On the down side it drinks like a thirsty camel, and the parts aren't that cheap, in fact, none of its running costs are cheap. But I still love it.

Your a brave lad for even thinking of trying to get insured on an impreza at 20. I was 24 when I got my S2000 and had 3 years NCB at the time. 95% of insurance companies just laughed in my face, 4% quoted me between £2500-£4000 quid and the one that did insure me, Tesco's, were s*it in the end!

good luck if you choose to go ahead mate!

I am not one to talk as at 20 I had a stripped out 16v tuned roll caged, bucket seated 106 Rallye as a daily driver which cost a fair amount on the insurance.

Now at 22 I have an imported teg DC5... oh dear. Yes the insurers did bend me over, yes it hurt, but I don't care

Common sence would say. Don't do it, get some more No Claims, get some more experience, wait till your 25 but if you can afford it and want it then go for it. In the end whats life without a few risks?

(EDIT: remembering how to english coherently, just a few minutes after I posted)

don't want to take someone else's forum, but this is what i'm looking for.

I'm 16, live in US.

(sorry this rambles)

So what i'm reading here is that getting a WRX (i'm looking at '02 to '04ish) for a 1st car wouldnt be very doable? Buying it isnt a problem, i have $10-15,000 to spend (seems to be many of '02 generation avail. in this range).? AM I OVER MY HEAD?

Everyone ssays they are really gas guzzlers, but everywhere I look it's about 20mpg, (8l/km), which is reasonable, to me. Itll be the most fuel efficient car in the family, at least. But they take premium, which will suck up gas money quicker than 20mpg suggests. Any comment here?

The thing that really worries me is the insurance, I was thinking it would be seen as a 4-door sedan (lol), and not considering it really a "sports car." But parents will start-out paying for ins., so I don't have to worry about that for a few years, assuming I can talk then into a WRX.

SO... what about an Impreza (N/A)?

i already know they dont have the most, plush, suspensions and interiors, but I've ridden in WRX's and an STi, and the WRX's arent too bad. STi harsh though. How big of a difference is there betweenw Impreza and WRX?

I thought all Imprezas are N/A, WRX is the turbo. Is this just a labeling difference from across the pond?

Hey. I'm 20, insured in my own name. Currently I drive a 1.8 MGF (nob-vvc). It's got 51k miles on the clock. I paid £2800 for it in September.

I am thinking of selling it at the start of summer. I estimate if I get lucky I could manage around £3300 for it.

I want to put that money, and another few grand that I wil save, towards an Impreza but I've only just started considering the Impreza and so have done very little research on them and haven't even got an insurane quote yet. It must be a turbo, really not interested in the old non-turbo models.

What advice can you give me? From what to look for, insurance...pretty much anything to do with them.

Cheers.

P.S. being shot down hurts, but i'd rather know now than later if i'm thinking really unrealistic here. THanks for any advice. I've also been considering Acura RSX(Honda Integra to ya'll), TSX(pricey), Mazda 6, Mazda Protege&Mazdaspeed, and love the DSM's but wouldnt dare own one(maintence, getting old).Dad was suggesting mazda 626(really inexpensive), or Honda Accord.
Whatever I get, it'll be a stick. for sure.

Not sure what insurance is like over your side of the pond, but over here insurance is just silly for most cars for younger drivers.

We had an "Impreza turbo 2000" model for many years over here, before it was renamed "WRX" to be in line with Japan & Australia. Thankfully the trim level went up at the same time (but not to the same level as Japan!)

As for fuel, mine's not as good as my 5 litre (305 CI ) v8 TVR.
