Correct - on any uneven road with anything over half throttle in third it's barking mad. Second is simply not viable. But you're right - it's a hell of a rush.

you are right.. thats what was attempting to stick to my ass this morning (I was in the Clio sport). I wondered what car it was.. and no.. it didn't keep up. (very windy lanes/roads, one-way only)

I thought he had trouble with the power as flying(ish) around the roundabout then switching quickly left on to the m-way sliproad I left him far behind (obviously couldn't get the power down)In the end he had to get past me on the m-way doing at least 110+ (to fly past me, I was at about 80ish)

/my clio is not std, chip/breathing (both ends) and ported head. I would guess about 190bhp) which is almost as quick as my s2000 in a straight line.

Had a go on the track in this recently, and was really rather impressed.

Pricey though -- which makes makes the competition from Ford and Vauxhall/Opel very strong indeed.

On balance I'd go for the RS in a non-orange shade.

According to parkers this is AWD? Is it? Or Is it just FWD with diffs and electric gizmo's that mimic AWD?

Sounds more like lack of driver commitment and / or skill to me; he's unlikely to have owned it for very long. Certainly in a straight line, there'd be no contest at all.

Why the hell didn't mazda make this 4WD??? they already have the set up from the 6MPS,and it would be more potent than the old jap 323GTR.

Agreed, I have 6MPS and would have got the wife the 3, if it had been AWD.

They are FWD but apparently Japan is to get an AWD version later this year.

Yes they have been out in Australia for some time now...tempted by one myself but they are pricy and I could get a slightly used Evo 8 for the money. I love hot hatches but the idea of an Evo keeps popping up!!

Why do you want to drag a load of steel and iron shite around with you that is only useful on very few occasions? In anything but very poor traction conditions, in normal life the FWD will be quicker, or at least as quick so that it doesn't matter.

Certainly in everyday road use the AWD does little, except as you say in poor traction conditions.
However, on a track in dry good grip conditions, the AWD is in use, especially for getting power down out of bends.
If Mazda did a 6MPS with FWD only, there is no way it would be as quick around a dry track as the AWD.
If they do produce the 3 in both FWD and AWD it would be a great comparison.

when driven hard the 4wd is in use,yes you lose power with transmission loses, but the power can be put down,if 4wd is a waste of time why dont they make fwd evo's and impezza's?.

Cost, primarily. Weight secondarily. The 3 MPS was designed as a road car, not a track weapon. It's also a rather outdated view that more than 220bhp-ish through the front wheels renders a car undriveable; a 9-3 Viggen this ain't.

You cant compare the 4wd system in the 6MPS to the systems you get in Evos and Imprezas, the 6 isnt even close to be as advanced. In the 6 its a basic, more FWD based system, in the evo you get a far more advanced system.

I don't begin to know how the 4WD system in the 6MPS works. I know in normal road use it is, just as you say, working as a FWD, and in accordance with how you drive it or the prevailing road conditions it will distribute power to the wheel or wheels that have the most grip.
I do know however that if you push the 1.5T of 6MPS into Graham Hill bend at Brands where you would normally have the front end washing out in a FWD car, in the 6, the 4WD system puts the power back to the rear bringing the front back into the apex very nicely indeed.
