MR2 Turbo is a hell of a nice car.

I test drove a couple, but ended up buying a late spec Celica GT4 for several reasons (basically, it was the better car for me).

Same engine, as mentioned. Pulls like a train and appears to be pretty bombproof.....

MY Black T-Bar Turbo will probably be up for sale in the next few weeks.

Gutted to let it go but I'm off to UNI in September, just waiting for the results of an entrance exam to confirm it for sure.

Info as follows:-

94 L reg, REV 3

BLACK - the best colour

T-Bar roof

NARDI sterring wheel (looks/feels very nice)

52k Miles (cambelt was done at 20k so it doesn't need doing for another 20k miles, ish)

Air Con / Climate Control

V good stereo, upgraded speakers, CD / minidisc / TV / SAT nav (Sat nav and TV are Japanese though so don't work over here )

EW , Electric folding mirrors, Steering front fogs, RCL

CAT2 Toad alarm

Standard 5 spoke 15" alloys

Nearly new rear tyres (Falkens - sticky as feck)

Bilstein suspension

Japanese service record plus bills from previous owner

Completely standard except for; CATS gutted and RAM air filter

Has a Dyno print out (226bhp at rear wheels)

Only thing thats gone wrong is the electric aerial, whcih I replaced, its had new fully synthetic oil every 3k and is a wicked car.

I would describe it as being in perfect condition apart from the odd stone chip on the nose and a couple of very minor paintwork blemishes (to be expected really). The rear alloys could do with refurbing as well but this is only a £80 job. Mainly driven by my misses who doesn't realise it goes over 4k rpm (bless) so its had an easy 8 months (apart from when I drive it of course).

I'm going to be advertising it for £7200.

You can have first dibs if your interested.

Thanks for the offer but my budget is 6k.

I assume by your user name you've had a 200sx s13 in the past, how does the mr2 compare with that?

Yep used to have a K reg s13, they're totally different.

The S13 is more of a GT car, a bit soft but comfortable for long distances. The MR2 is a sports car, rock hard and pin sharp handling.

Good, my old s13 was fast enough but handled like cr*p (probably down to the mods of the previous owner).

Just popped over from another forum. I've got a 1995 REV3 MR2 Turbo GT-TBar and have had it for 5 years. Bought it from a wholesaler in Ireland who was bringing cars in by the boatload. Agreed a brilliant price based on condition 4 car before it had even arrived and flew over to pick it up after it had passed the border into Belfast and been registered there. Dealer was a bit pig-sick cos it had split rim alloys (worth about 1.5k) and other bits and pieces he never knew about but the deal was already done. So ended up with a top car for a top price.

In 5 years there have been no problems at all, keep it serviced and use it regularly. Only mods have been a mongoose twin pipe (instead of the huge Trust drainpipe that came with it) and a decent stereo and alarm. Had it sideways once when I was being a total prat but snapped back easily enough and that is with driving in the sun, rain and even snow - mind you snow is not recommended as they don't like going up hills.

Anyhow it is a car that still makes me grin and I would urge anyone to try one out - although it has been in a bad mood ever since I got my TVR Tuscan to sit alongside it.

Andy Mac said: Erm... depends what you want... Rev 1 models, (pre 93), were a bit more biased with weight on the back, so are a bit more involving, and fun to drive, but came with a less powerful 220 bhp engine. They came with bilstien suspension all round though, and 14 inch walloys. The rev 2's, which were 93 I believe had an improved suspension setup, and the engine was rotated forward slightly giving a more balanced weight distribution, but some purist types prefer the older setup. They also upped the wheels to 15 inch. Then cam the rev 3's onwards... they came with the 245 bhp engines, and are the prefered choice for many. Most changes after that were purely superficial... spoilers, etc.

Rev1 made from 89-91, 14" Wheels and really not very good brakes in standard form. Quite twitchy suspension, prone to break away very quickly if pushed in inexperienced hands. Prefered by many more experienced drivers. PAS optional. 225PS

Rev2 made from 92-93, 15" wheels, much better brakes, rear suspension tamed, but suspension much stiffer. PAS as standard, but LSD and ABS optional. 225PS

Rev3 made from 94-96, 15" Wheels, revised suspension, 245PS engine with different EFI system and lower compression. LSD standard on all Rev3 Turbos. Much nicer looking rear lights.

Rev4 and 5 were mainly styling diferences, esp. the rear spoiler. Same engine as Rev3.

In all revisions, GT is the deluxe version with tinted windows, leather setas etc. the GT-S was a lighter, slightly stripped out version with stiffer suspension, cloth seats and clear glass etc.

If you want to drive the car hard, get a coupe rather than the T-Top which makes the body flex considerably more. For posing the T-Top probably wins, if you can put up with the inevitable squeaks and leaks.

I saw a 91 import this weekend with 47k miles on it in excellent condition (grade 3.5-4) with leather and climate control for 3995 at an importer which although it was red and wasn't a t-top was incredible value. Sold as I waited for a test drive though.

Hi, I got two questions concerning non-Turbo MR2s, as I feel like selling my 944 to make some place for one of them. For anybody who has experienced both cars, how do they compare in terms of handling? And second, is a LSD a fun option to look for with the N/A MR2s, or just a waste of money?

I had an NA before the turbo, and to be honest the only difference with the two was the performance.. The handling on the na was pretty much razor sharpe, as long as the geometry was correct. Not sure what it would be like against a 944, but would suspect handling wise, it would beat it hands down... rear engine makes for a much nimbler car. better off just going for a test drive, as peeps opinions will vary quite dramatically....

Thank you very much... Sounds like it's worth giving away that Porsche key one can impress people soooo much with (until they find out the car's neither pretty nor a 911). Only have to find some offers in my area, and the necessary time to test drive them.

Right, finally got around to test driving one and liked it a lot.

Quick question... do the 16" and 17" aftermarket alloys make much difference to the handling on these cars?

Thanks,

Mark

I drove a modified (MAXed) example that was lowered and sitting on 17's.

Wasn't nice.

I imagine if it's done properly it shouldn't be an issue.

Handles very well with 16s thats what i have on mine, better with the right size 17s though, you can get 18s on with no problems, but then you will have bad handleing problems, not to mention no full lock

ChrisD - Keep the 944, not really a contest. Ive owned NA and Turbo MR2's (1990 & 1993). The 944 I've driven is an S2, great car.

Rev1 (90-92) are really improved by the later 15" wheels, well worth it. (you can also squeeze the later brakes on it with those wheels. You wont get the 14's back on though

To be honest they handle best on the stock 15's, weigh one against an aftermarket wheel! Keep that unsprung wheight down.
