Love Crown’s, just great cars imo. I have a 2006 Crown Athlete and it’s the longest I’ve ever owned a car, just nothing else I can replace it with except for another Crown biggrin
This car is an absolute joy to drive. The closest comparison I have, truthfully, is a well sorted Silver Shadow. It just glides along so smooothly. Maybe the Rolls thing is me getting carried away but you can just about hear the engine purring away.

I bought a 2003 Forester XT a couple of years back to try and 'fill the void' left by my Impreza Turbo 2000 wagon. It nailed the sound aspect courtesy of a Prodrive backbox, however found the drive left a lot to be desired; brakes somehow worse than the Impreza when 'pressing on' in both longevity and feel through the pedal, the car felt very up on its toes and more susceptible to crosswinds etc compared to the Impreza, and to seal the deal it munched its turbo after 3,000 miles of use! Was tempted to use it as a tow barge once the turbo was replaced but am aware from previous experiences how bad Subaru clutches are at taking abuse, even without a trailer on the back, so ended up punting it on. Wouldn't have another, but enjoyed the cruise control, sunroof and arm rests while it lasted.
You'd probably get on with the 3rd gen even less, it's much further away from 'car like' than the MK2 XTs I've driven and headed into crossover SUV territory.

Put this on A/T tyres as an all weather countryside runaround so 'pressing on' it's the last thing on the agenda, but it's still a hundred times less depressing than another Tiguan on the road.

It's earning it's keep smile

Ex track car from japan, owned it 4 years now and there's still little quirks I'm finding with it. Forged, Link ecu big turbo etc

That is just wonderful! A proper Gran Turismo kid's dream toy! Long before I started my love of Jap cars, I worked with a young lad who had a Starlet. It was the generation before this one though I'm not too sure specifically which one I didn't know anything about them except that it's awful noise and turbo timer annoyed me every morning. I dismissed it as a chavvy little crap box basically. He spent a lot of time and money on power mods with no consideration much to much else. One day I joined him on a lunchbreak and immediately wondered how he could stand the many squeaks and rattles of everything in the cabin and why a Toyota was so badly put together. I was embarrassed to be in this thing. So noisy and unrefined, bounced around by pieces of gravel and sweet wrappers littering the road. It was annoying, uncomfortable, embarrassing, very noisy and I was starting to wish I'd walked to Morrisons.

Then on a bit of clear road and at low speed the boost came on....... to this day iv'e never felt so much power belong to a car so basic and simple. A mad moment of tyre shredding and turbo noise. He's fighting the steering wheel as if my side of the car and his wanted a trial separation. I don't think I ate any lunch, even just being a passenger it was the most fun hour I could of hoped for. I realized the interior had actually done remarkably well to deal with such an onslaught of noise, vibration and insane acceleration over and over again. Ground was covered so fast I barely had time to remember the route taken. I could see that he had a choice between steering and braking or power, just not at the same time smile

I remember after that day worrying an awful lot as to whether he would turn up at work on a daily basis but fortunately he did.

The version your friend had was likely the Toyota Starlet GT Turbo or known as the EP82. This one below is a facelift and earlier models had square front lights instead of the quad light look.

They had the same engine as the white one above (known as the Starlet Glanza V or EP91) which produced 133bhp standard. The EP82 weighed 830kg to 860kg and the EP91 about 920kg.

My 2nd car was an EP91 Starlet Glanza V and that was lightly modified in Japan. Cat back exhaust, induction kit, TRD springs, strut braces, Enkei wheels and a factory LSD. I went with my friend to buy it and he thought it was fantastic, he called one of his Dad's good friends who did some club level racing and asked if he could take it for a drive on some B roads. He owned an MG ZT and wanted to do a straight swap for the Glanza he loved it so much!

Two friends had these, one had an EP82 with a TD04 running round 220...crazy little thing he wrote off at Cadwell...the other had a built red EP91 that got written off when someone pulled out in front of him. I'll see if I can find any photos I have of them...

S2K and Corolla on NZ numberplates? Presumably because they are in NZ!

Correct. Other half is a K1W1. I get the Honda, she uses her old girl when we go back. Her mum also has a LandCruiser to keep up with the theme.

Lovely place. Flights are a bh.

My Civic Type R. A few bits done focusing on reducing weight without impacting refinement. Engine is completely standard as is exhaust.

What are the front calipers on that? Not standard are they?

Hi there. You're correct. They're Spoon calipers. Very expensive new and rarely come up for sale second hand. Luckily I was in the right place at the right time and found these for sale second hand.

I've also had 2 piece custom front discs based on standard size discs. The stopping power is massively improved over standard and I've saved a few kgs of unsprung / rotational mass.
