Im comfortable with MPG down to 20 for varied driving (but obviously higher for long journeys).

Am aware of the risks of joining the "no use of indicators" or "fast lane owners" club but was hoping an old BMW might be forgiven!

Bascically a rev2 MR2 turbo for £2.5K would be ideal but also a miracle! The reason I have looked at the BM is the price, RWD, LSD and reasonable power.

I must have higher than a 160 BHP car as thats what my CRX VTEC was and I want higher!
(Unless I can get a cheap old GT Corralla RWD AE86 (or 83?) But they come with rocking horse poo!).

I didnt mean that one but thanks for the advice.
Although I do think that was the best looking supra, the first one.

I have a friend who has tuned an '89 Supra turbo to 450BHP and is about to add Nos!
Should be fun!

Dusty; I've seen mark 3 Supras for under £1K. You could spend the money replacing the tyres it eats on trackdays... You'd also be largely immune from depreciation.

Have you considered a 2.0 16v MR2?

I saw one for 3k, but it was way overpriced so I didn't even test drive it.

IIRC some models put out 170bhp. Drop a high-lift cam, filter and exahust on there it'd maybe be good for 200 break.

That'd keep you for a year or two...

Mk III supras have a weak head gasket, and the Auto box isn't great.....

Apart from that, they should run forever....

The autobox isnt great?? please elaborate.
Yes they do have a weak HG but once replaced with a MHG it's problem solved.
Im biased towards the supra, but as youve said you want to do the odd trackday then thats why ive gone to the 2.
As for running cost i cant see there being much difference between the 2 and beemer.
Stay Jap, you know it makes sense.
P.S easily pick up mkiii supra turbos for a grand, spend another £2k on it and your looking around 400 brake

Why dont honda make more RWD cars?
The engines are fantastic.
The handling is reward winning (Integra Type R).
But they are always FWD.

A RWD '90 CRX VTEC and Prelude VTEC would be amazing cars if the handling and wieght balancing was set up right.

(Anyone that says S2000 or NSX can think again. Im talking about realistically affordable cars for me!)

MHG is a very good thing indeed on a Supra. Doubly so if you intend turning the boost up.

The couple I've driven both had rather lethargic auto boxes. They might have been on the way out, but I'm not a massive fan of auto boxes on the main in any rate.

Mine blew its head gasket at about 60-65k when the previous owner had it.
It is a common thing but once sorted, it rarely gives problems again.

I think the problem initially was the heads weren't torqued down as tightly as they could be.
Tightening them down more apparently reduces the risk of BHG's.

The auto box was one of the best in its day, and is still very good.
It is apparently far better than the manual.
