Ive seen a rather nice 1996 200sx (s14 model) nearby, 80000 miles, manual, turbo

How do you all rate them though? what problems should be looking for?

I've got a 95 auto. They are absolutely superb cars. Big tourers, as seen by most, but once you're behind the wheel and get used to the size, you'll be fine.

Check out sxoc.co.uk , 200sx forum for UK.

Happy Motoring !!

Very very good cars. Loads of potential and solid engines. I drive a '93 200SX S13.

Quick. Subtle. Well built. Fun......

I seriously, seriously considered one....

Was just a bit *too* subtle for me...

If I had one car I'd be very happy with something like that.

Excellent motor for not much money.

At that mileage look carefully at the turbo and make sure it's had regular oil changes. Easy to boost to 250+hp too ... mine was

How old are you??

I was getting quotes of around £700 TPFT for an S13 valued at 2k. I'm 23 with 4yrs NCB.

Two grand is a bit steep!

Worth seeing if the owners club has an insurance scheme......

Saved me a fortune on the Four.

As already mentioned have a look at the forum on www.sxoc.com there is a good insurance section right at the bottom. I think the best quotes so far have been from HIC, there is a contact name in there somewhere, give that a try.
As already said they are good cars, easy to tweak and a lot of tuning parts now coming onto the second hand market. My 200 is currently running about 250, but 300 is quite easy to achieve. See profile for pic if you are interested.

Cheers

im expecting high insurance costs but thats a little too high. i can see why, 1.8 turbo RWD isnt going to help.

You have no chance, try a CRX

My CRX VTEC was a group 12 but only worked out £30 cheaper than my group 15 Celica.
This was 3 years ago when I was 27.

Sometimes the groups dont seem to make much difference.

Try Bell Direct. I got amazing quotes for them on modded Jap cars earlier this year
and have heard people in their early 20s getting similar quotes to me. (this was for MR2 Turbos though)

Have to agree with comments r.e. Bell Direct. Altough I have had problems with them insuring things like strut braces and dump valves.
