Right, now it may appear that I'm flitting between cars and can't make up my mind as to what I actually want, which would be true to a certain extent. But anyway, me and a couple of mates were looking around the Track Action workshops yesterday, and spied a Honda CRX in the corner. It's a proper racing car, used to compete in the CRX championship, and latterly the Super Coupe Cup. We were discussing starting out on track days with Simon and Graham there, and mentioned the MR2 idea. They said we were better off buying a proper track car, as opposed to modifying a road car. They then mentioned that we could have the CRX for £3500 if we wanted it. Anybody own/owned/raced one, and give me some pointers on what to look out for? The car was at Oulton Park last weekend and seemed perfectly fine to me, but obviously you never know.

I used to have a CRX VTEC MK2 (pic in my profile).

Fantastic car and Id have another any day. It would also be a fantastic track car. Wheels are right in the corners, handling is fantastic and responsive with great progressive lift off oversteer characteristics.

Mine was mint but I have heard the back archs rust easily.
Also if the suspension bushes on the back need doing then be prepared for a big bill (£250 labor). It will feel like its oversteering on every corner if they are knackered.

Then again thats all for road cars.
I expect things such as induction and exhaust to be altered on a race car too but modifiying these makes a huge difference to the performance.

Try asking dangermouse. He has a non-VTEC model that he has tinkered with.

Hi,

Friend of my has driven CRXs since 1991 both road and race he is conviced as a starter car both road and race its hard to beat thus why he has had them so long.
I do belive they can become a little expensive on parts but reliability is the key to this little car.
