MR2 Import Speedo Cable

Mates just had the speedo cable go on his imported 1991 MR2. Garage replaced the cable and the speedo now reads in KPH. I've had a look at the old cable and its got a gearbox affair on it to drop the rotational speed of the cable down so the KMH speedo reads in MPH.
The gearbox section is fine its the cable the goes from the box to the head thats snapped. Unfortunately the box has a flat square fitting on it whilst the gearbox end has a barbed round section on it.
Does anyone know how to get hold of the proper cable, or even just the square section to crimp to the existing cable.

Any Ideas where you got it from? Can't seem to track one down through my usual sources although I very rarely deal with Jap cars let alone imports.
If its just over a ton thats a bargain seeing as he got a local garage to do the cable and it set him back well over 200 for a straight UK one, so now lucky me gets to spend one evening next week when I should be in the beer garden crawling under his car
