I think I want a GTR as my next car, haven't driven one yet though. A question to owners, nothing to do with running costs, but looking at pics of the interior the hand brake is right where I rest my left elbow, looks like a terrible design flaw. I suppose it sounds a bit petty, but I drive with my hands at the 20 past 8 position, with left elbow normally resting right where the hand brake is. Any owners have a problem with this? I thought I could possibly make up a cover to act as an arm rest.

The other thing that looks awful in my old fashioned opinion is all the buttons on the steering wheel. And does the multi purpose screen in the middle of the dash dim to a very low light, as I do most of my driving at night and hate being blinded by overly bright dash lights.

One last thing, are there any interior rattles? Thanks for any replies.

I never had any problem with the handbrake getting in the way at all.
The console is quite low anyway.Remember you dont change gear with the lever in the console, you use the paddles or leave it in auto mode.

The buttons on the wheel are extremely useful as they are on all wheels of that type. I can't believe that once you've used a car so equipped you'd want to do otherwise.

You can dim or even turn off the screen completely and of course it can be configured in dozens of different ways.

Depends on the individual car about rattles but mine was solid as a rock.

Its a very firm car though, much more so than you'd imagine just by looking at it. Stiffer than many hardcore alternatives.

Thanks for the reply mate, while I've got your attention can I ask if you have a standard one or a power upgrade? Just wondered how much notable difference there is between 480 or 550 ish bhp?

Agree with the other poster - the only rattle I get is occasionally the passenger side seatbelt buckle rattling - just nudge it a bit and it stops.

There is a noticeable difference between stock and the 550ish from Cobb or Ecutek....the more significant difference is the uprated gearbox software (from the same suspects) - makes the car much better at roundabouts (I have an early cobb from GTC and the Ecutek Gearbox upgrade from Litchfields)

As Guy says the difference between stock (bloody fast) and Ecutek or Cobb map with y pipe (Seriously bloody fast) is very noticeable and well worth it. I had Litchfield remap + y pipe alone to begin with then took mine to their stage 3 which is the full exhaust (Quieter than y pipe alone funnily), new intakes and a further remap to suit. In terms of bang for your buck the first stage is a no brainer, thereafter you spend a lot more per extra bhp.
The gearbox software I didn't have but I am told its well worth it. The box is brilliant but at slow speeds its a bit clunky.

The steering wheel buttons incidentally control the variable maps when its tuned.

As many have said, the costs could vary depending on your car and needs smile I think the newer models are better on costs as most of the niggles are sorted by then. I would recommend a MY12 if you can afford it.

I generally put aside around £500 monthly for the GTR for bits and bobs. Car is standard now although I am tempted to get exhaust + y pipe. Either that or hold on longer and get myself MY12 smile

Coming from an Audi I would say yes, the interior doesn't have the "premium" feel. Absolute cracking car to drive etc but the interior is a bit of a let down. I am hoping the MY12 interiors would be better (or should be at that price!)

edit: I get buzzing from speakers, right air vents and central console. I appreciate the car is now 2 years old so those are to be expected...

MY11 onwards has grey anodised finish where the brushed aluminium bits were. An improvement certainly but I quite like the GTR interior. Plenty of leather, good ergonomics, all the toys without stupid prices that german cars all have.
But the value is 2010 cars at £40k with a couple of £Ks to tune it. And Audi dont make a car that is remotely batting in the same league of performance, even in standard level of tune, and I include the £115k R8 in that.

Never tried the MY11+ cars but been in a MY10 car which (in my opinion) looks the same interior wise.(I have a 59 plate) I agree MY11+ onwards have better interiors and tempted to test drive one in the future.

The performance is simply phenomenal(sp?) nothing comes close to it. R8 V8 is no match at all performance wise I agree but the V10 (especially the GT) would give the GTR a close run biggrin

Cheers for replies guys smile

That looks awesome Phil, I want that colour or silver, funny how I used to think the shape was almost ugly but every time I look at it now I like it more and more, it's really grown on me (still think my left elbow is gonna be bang on top the hand brake though!).

Probably obvious I know, but the hand brake is not in the position shown in the pics when driving driving

My 59 plate interior looks almost identical to this car.

Car looks FAB btw..

My 59 plate has been Lichfield fettled and has a proven 603bhp and 630lb/ft torque yet can be driven like a pussycat if desired - for 40k for the car at current value plus £3k mods you have a Lambo eater.

Get one!!

I bought a 2014 a few months ago and my biggest issue was the horrible dunlops they put on them in the USA, not sure it's the same in UK. When I changed out the horrible runflats to Michelin 4s tires it transformed the ride quality and improved the handling.

They’re absolutely fab in the winter.
I used a second set of wheels with winter tyres for a couple of years. Not only do you benefit from the improved grip, you also don’t need to worry so much about scuffing your main wheels on all the road detritus and random potholes that seems to accumulate at this time of year.

I do like the new 2016 GTR. The interior is a real step forward from the older version. That said it still isnt anywhere near what it should be when compared to BMW/Audi.
