BMW Z4 - Talk to me
Discussion
I'm reading through here trying to figure out who I should know from z4-forum
Think most things have been covered, but the common issues are indeed:
- roof motor failure: most often caused by blocked roof drains, more common on cars parked outside/under trees
- rear springs snapping (replacing with Eibachsif when they break solves that)
- bad corrosion on 108-style wheels (shame as they look lovely)
- HVA issues on the newer N52 3.0 265ps engine
- runflats don't do the ride/handling any favours: replacing with normal tyres helps ride quality and reduces tramlining.
Sports seats help with resale, they certainly have more lateral support but some folk find the sports backrests too narrow for wide shoulders (aka powerfully-built PHers). Heated seats are VERY desirable and very effective - I wouldn't be without them for winter top-down driving.
Basic business headunit is "adequate". Important to note the pre-facelift car's headunits only play CDs (not MP3 discs) but can still have an aux-in added.

They're slowly rising because I'm attracting all the attention to the Zed's I'm in no rush to buy, so will wait out until a nice example for the right price crops up.
Ideally:
Black Sapphire
Wind deflector
Sports Seats
Sat/Nav
3.0 Auto/Manual
60K miles FBMWSH
18" 108's/Conicals

Good spec. Pretty much identical to the one I picked up from AUC last month, but in a different colour. Ideally:
Black Sapphire
Wind deflector
Sports Seats
Sat/Nav
3.0 Auto/Manual
60K miles FBMWSH
18" 108's/Conicals
Mem seats/parking assist

It is absolutly mint.
It did set me back £9.5k though!

Good isn't it? I just removed the one at the bulkhead end but it makes my ears bleed.

i'm fitting the aFe tonight, i will report back...
after being told by two yocal engineers that it couldn't be fixed i'm pleased to say i'm managed to get the intake pipe fixed at a more specialist engineers...they specialise in food manufacturing equipment and i dropped in that i work for one of the largest food manufacturers in the country...
let you know what i think hopefully tomorrow...must say i wish now i'd just bought a new one, the 2nd hand effort with a week's use has so far cost me £35 in repairs, £10 in new bolts (to replace the missing ones!) and half a day being spent gassed in the loft of my garage whilst i spray the air box as the 'powder coat' was flaking off round the edges.
so fingers crossed it'll make a good noise...

Mine is officially too loud....the Missus refuses to take her fingers out of her ears during journeys now!!
What combination of foam do people think is best? I was going to just put the foam closest to the cabin back in? Then maybe a trimmed down version of the other piece?
I settled on just removing the foam at the bulkhead end. Hardly any louder on part throttle but on full throttle at high revs it is louder but not ear splitting.
