Just how good is the E60 M5, or settle for E60 535D????
Discussion
In the market for a new car, looking at 2006-2008 M5s or 535Ds. They doesn’t seem to be much in the asking process, but I assume there is in running costs. I wind be a massive mile cruncher, about 10k a year, so mpg, not the most important thing,
So just how good in the M5? Is there a massive difference over the 535D, I fully expect a flaming, as the M5 is am ‘M’ car.
Well running costs would be roughly double. At 10k miles PA can you handle going to get petrol every week because that will become part of your routine...
A BMW warranty is a must on an E60 M5 and will cost roughtly double that compared to an E60 53x D.
Apart from the looks which are similar the driving experience is completely different and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The best thing to do is drive them both and decide what is right for you.
Edited to add: Don't see the 535D as settling - it's not. It's a v. good car in its own right.

Do you want to go really really fast, with a lovely sounding engine, but pay more fuel and road tax? Or do you want to go fast, but pay less road tax, fuel and service costs?
The only reason you choose a 535d over an M5 is Money, hence why I bought a 335d instead of an M3.
A pre-April 2006 M5 gets the cheaper road tax.The only reason you choose a 535d over an M5 is Money, hence why I bought a 335d instead of an M3.

I'm currently toying with upgrading my recently acquired E39 530i for an E60 545i or 550i - maybe this model could be an option for you? V8 and lots of power/torque, but not quite the handling or running costs of an M?
Ignore Fox and try them yourself. The 530i is underpowered, IMO.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
