F30 330d remap
Discussion
Just repeating what i've read elsewhere in regards to the F20 - but the encryption on the ECU of the new BMWs means they cannot currently be remapped with a high success rate. Some of the European tuners are reporting only 50%. I'm sure it'll change, but anecdotally i've also heard that ECU changes are logged and automatically reported back to Germany by the diagnostics system, therefore bypassing lenient dealerships and invalidating warranty work on any problems that could conceivably be related back to the uprated map. It might be urban mythology but I wouldnt take the risk given BMW's vested interest in preventing aftermarket mapping vs their own performance packages.
I find it interesting that in order to bypass these new protocols, Hartge have gone down the tuning box route for the 125d (like mine). I've just done a stack of research before ordering a micro-processor controlled one myself from an alternative UK supplier with a 28 day returns policy.
I know there is a perennial debate about remaps vs tuning boxes, but my research has suggested there is good and bad versions of both. I guess i'll find out soon enough!

Just a thought while waiting for my fully specced 330d to arrive...
If you want that extra power why bother re-mapping ??
By a fully specced M3 instead.
Just a thought
Tested an F30 330d Msport touring for the weekend before buying an M3, very very quick car the 330d Mid range is clinical in the way it dispatches slower moving traffic and unlike most diesels it pulls and pulls as the speed goes up. If you want that extra power why bother re-mapping ??

258hp stock so I guess 300-310 when chipped/mapped would make it awesome, the sport gauges in the idrive screen are fun too.
I have to say I am loving my F31 330d. It's properly quick even as standard, so I imagine the extra shove from getting it remapped will make it very interesting!
I've only got 500 miles on the clock so far, but I'll be keeping an eye on other people's opinions on tuning the things before making the jump myself.
It doesn't really need more power, but since when has that had anything to do with it?

Have been looking at swapping out my 635d for 330d M Sport Touring following v impressive test drive.
Received email from one of the companies I contacted re re-mapping (no names, no pack drill)
(Unfortunately we are not yet able to offer a modification by any method for this model because of its engine management security. At the moment it appears doubtful that we will be able to offer it"
Can anyone give me an idea on lead times on the 330d at the moment - cheers

I ordered my F31 M Sport 330d touring back in mid March and I think it is due last week in June / 1st week in July… can't wait. Received email from one of the companies I contacted re re-mapping (no names, no pack drill)

The 3.0d engine is incredibly popular so the lead times on anything that use it seem to be pretty long at the minute, 12+ weeks according to my dealer (and my wait).

BMW offer a 281bhp upgrade including a new inter cooler and replacement drilled front discs for around 2k.I've only got 500 miles on the clock so far, but I'll be keeping an eye on other people's opinions on tuning the things before making the jump myself.

I am considering this option , although the car is really quick enough for most situations and has a mid range that just goes on and on.

However, I don't think it's available in the UK which is a real shame.
