Great cars. Yours looks much better with the MV1's on.
Here is my old black one, I would have another but would want a 6 speed in Imola.
Hey thanks! What made you get rid of yours..... looks lovely. Know what you mean about the 6 speed but hasnt bothered me as much as i thought it would? Here is my old black one, I would have another but would want a 6 speed in Imola.

The wiper is a common fault - water gets into them over time from the washer jet set and the gear mechanism seizes up. You can refurb them on the cheap otherwise it's a new one.
I think yours has all the stuff mine has by the sound of it. I've got the moonroof, ( TV with nav -comes in handy in Europe ), electric heated seats ( leather rather than alcantara - I prefer the alcantara though ), 6 CD changer ( luckily plays MP3 CDs ), storage pack and tyre pressure monitor

Just a quick warning to anyone with MV1 or 2s on their Compacts in this thread - be careful of mixing tyres front/rear
Certain combinations can render the car nearly undriveable, with Potenza front / Dunlop SP9000 rear being the culprit in my case. This isn't just tramlining, it causes the DSC to trip on medium-to-high speed bends, roundabouts, motorway undulations, etc. Turns the car into a right nasty little git to handle

A sensible warning, I had matching tyres on my 325ti but I bought a 330i sport saloon once which had 4 different tyres on it all with different tread depth - it was lethal! I think a square set-up is more fun than a staggered set up on them - 205/50x17s give it a lovely feel, more adjustable than 225/45s all round.... And less 'understeery' than the 225/245 staggered setup

Slightly off topic but do the compacts use the older M50 iron-block engine or the M52?
I thought the M50 was phased out in 1996 in the E36 saloon to make way for the M52, so is the Compact using a 'full-power' variant of the 2.5 litre M52 used in the 323i saloon?
M54 2.5 I thought the M50 was phased out in 1996 in the E36 saloon to make way for the M52, so is the Compact using a 'full-power' variant of the 2.5 litre M52 used in the 323i saloon?
More similar in character to the old M50 2.5 rather than the M52 2.5 though in that it's a revver rather than a slugger

M52 was used in the LHD-only E36 323ti though. Always fancied having a drive in one of those to see what they're like in comparisonI thought the M50 was phased out in 1996 in the E36 saloon to make way for the M52, so is the Compact using a 'full-power' variant of the 2.5 litre M52 used in the 323i saloon?

Are the tyres the Fullruns as in the wheel pic? They don't have the best reputation in the wet so I've read in reviews?
Fullruns front/kendra rears. Im aware of how horrid these tyres are and will replace with premiums (any advice) in the near future. I was just keen to change the alloys in the short term.My Compact of dreams ( have I mentioned what a great car these are ?!) runs conti sport contact and like the lads above have said it will make a huge difference to how your car will feel. The car will hang its tail out with the best of them with all aids switched off but with everything on, with these tyres, you would happily give it to your Granny in a monsoon. Great little car, have I mentioned that before?

I dont think you have......!!!! So Conti Sport Contact. Question. Would a strech tyre at the rear (check photos) make a major differece to the handling. These have the staggered fitment but with same tyre fitment all round. I will be honest and say i llllooooovvveee how this looks but honest opinions are really apreciated.timetothink said:

Handling is absolutely fine in the wet, definitely better than my old E36 coupe which was rather twitchy in the wet.

Slightly narked that I couldn't find any 325tis when I was looking around, didn't want a high mileage 320tdi, the 318Tis that I saw were ropy and found a fairly neat 316Ti ...

Wouldn't feel too narked - from a handling point of view the mag reviews of the 4-cylinder petroleum were even more positive than for the 6-cylinder at the launch of the E46 CompactI put a set of Toyo Proxes CF2s on, and that really has made it ride and handle pretty sweet.
