bmw coolant where to buy
Discussion
Does it have to be BMW coolant?
According the BMW TIS there are 14 other suppliers (apart from BMW) of coolant which are acceptable for my M5.
As far as I can tell there is nothing special about BMW's own stuff (they don't make it themselves, of course) apart from the price.
I have Comma coolant in all my cars. It's widely available and the primary constituents (Glysantin) are made by BASF in Germany so have no fear.

Yes, I've seen similar recommendations on several BMW forums. M5board is by far the worst for the largely unwarranted worship of 'BMW-only' fluids. Check out some of the oil threads for BMW Castrol TWS worship! BMW are now partnered with Shell...so will Shell now (suddenly overnight) be oil of choice amongst the forum cogniscenti to the exclusion of all others?...Crazy.
I understand the appeal of branding but there are limits. Anti-freeze is a relatively simple fluid you mix with water (should we be buying BMW water to mix with it?).
Buy correctly specified stuff from a reputable manufacturer at a sensible price.

http://www.commaoil.com/passenger-vehicles/product... You need this, it's not exactly expensive either.

Normally I would buy an independent brand as suggested by some above. However in the case of BMW coolant it has a ten year life which is about twice as long as any other brand. Also it is not as expensive as it seems because each bottle holds 1.5 litres.
I agree it's not that dear, I'm sure they recommend a change on my E46 every two years.I could of course be talking cack and will be happily corrected.
