Currently drive an Octavia vRS (petrol) but thinking about chopping it in for an auto 520D M Sport or SE. Recently moved place of work and spending more time in the car commuting which basically means idling burning fuel and going nowhere fast! So Stop / Start would look to be a bonus. Looking for something comfortable and economic but still a good turn of pace and a fun steer. I have got 2 kids (teenagers) so need something of a decent size.
Love the Octavia, bit concerned that returning to diesel might be a mistake (dpf failures etc). Previously owned a 2007 Saab 9-3 Tid (150) and also a 2002 Seat Toledo TDi. Always liked the fuel economy of diesel but never really connected with the narrow power band...
So what do I need to know about 520D? What are servicing costs like? What are common faults / failures? Are these really that economic?
Cheers.

Definitely get the M Sport with Pro Nav - I have 19's on mine and the ride is absolutely perfect (the guys with 18's will of course say otherwise).Love the Octavia, bit concerned that returning to diesel might be a mistake (dpf failures etc). Real life fuel eco has over 30k miles been 53.8mpg - which I think is absolutely fantastic ( a high on one tank of over 57 and a low of 46).
The car looks great - drives great and is very very comfy, is fast enough and the 8 speed gearbox is perfection!
My car is now just over 3 years old and still looks fresh and still gets positive looks/comments - love it.
