However Brembo do not list them to fit a 545, or a 550

All the dimensions match but I'll confirm when I get round to fitting them.
Brembo not directly listing to E60/61 could be a marketing thing as I'm pretty sure the 6 and 7 series V8 of similar years use the same front brakes and the 6 is certainly listed.
Definately worth going for the UV coating how they look out of the box but won't know for sure until after the next winters salt attack. The spec sheet shows tests confirming much more corrosion resistance.
Just cleared an inch of water out of the battery compartment and spare wheel well... Some soggy electrics in there. Tried to clear out the drain tubes from the pano roof, I'll have to keep an eye on it. Some of the trim is in the greenhouse to dry! I'd recommend checking, especially if you have occasional idrive issues and/or an 'increased battery discharge' warning.
Also, and excuse the bodge, cable tied my exhaust valve open to try and get a nicer note. Cold start sounds better, general driving not much different. I'm sure it'll return itself to standard as soon as the exhaust gets properly hot!

I decided on Friday that it was time to make a car change - I am 3 years in to e61 550i ownership, but really I should have bought a 7 seater all along as I need one. Currently, when travelling with family we take two cars. I considered pretty much EVERY option, from a Japanese import Mitsubishi Chariot to a Mercedes GL through a Santa Fe and an XC90. I find BMWs good to drive, fast and frugal and so I thought if anything could inspire me it would be a 7 seater X5. So on Saturday I toddled off to view a 2010 X5 3.0d SE (245bhp, so LCI with 8 speed auto).
I admit to not having driven it, which was probably a mistake, as it means I cannot make a real comparison but I didn't see any point unless I was seriously interested - and I wasn't; the interior is so dull and utterly uninspiring I just don't think I could live with it no matter how it drove. 8 speed auto and decent I-drive but as far as I could see everything else was a step backwards. This feeling was compounded by the 2010 Discovery 4 HSE sitting next to it.
Anyone own or driven both an e61 550i and an x5 3.0d? Have I been hasty in dismissing one as a replacement?

I test drove an X5 with the 4.4 V8, it was auto but not the latest 8 speed one. The weight dulled the poke from the V8 and the handling felt cumbersome, the economy was awful, it had the interior from an E39 despite being the same age as my 550i, the tyres were ginormous in width so god only knows how much they would cost to replace. In fact the only redeeming feature was the refinement of the engine and the noise it made when you booted it. If you remove that for the diesel, well.... make your own judgement!
Give me a 5 series all week long and twice on the weekend.
ETA: If you can why not get a 7 seater E Class AMG55/63?

That has a lot of appeal. I would be making frequent 100mile trips and Im not sure about the seating configuration - if it was just the odd school pick-up I would go for it!

Yeah that's the one. It's about the only thing with 7 seats that's in the same league as the 550i I believe.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

I have no sunroof. So would this not affect mine?
Not sure to be honest. Lift the boot floor and see if the storage tray thing is damp. Mine was soaked!I'd still check though, just to be safe.

Are the ML63's 7 seat?
When I last checked them they were looking good value, won't be slow either!
I think the early ML are quite small. Compared to a G they look tiny. You could probably fit an ML in the boot of a G. Be warned though that the ML63 fuel consumption is one of the highest known to man. When I last checked them they were looking good value, won't be slow either!

I don't mean to swear but i have often thought that if i was forced into a 7 seater i would have to go and test drive a Merc R class...
I'm sure they did both an R500 and an R63 AMG.
Sure, it looks like a Previa on acid, but i suspect it drives better than one.
I have considered an R - most are 6 seats, but some do have 7. Controversial styling though - even for an MPV! Im sure they are a good drive. I like the look of the GL as well but if was going extra large I would probably buy a Discovery 4 - my father owns one, I have driven it, they are very nice.I'm sure they did both an R500 and an R63 AMG.

Whilst we are temporarily musing on the subject of quick MPVs, I owned one which was even rarer than a 550i - a 3.5v6 Grand Espace. Tremendous spec (keyless entry / go / auto electronic handbrake, touchscreen sat nav and that was all in 2003!) and a tremendous engine (from the 350z). Not actually THAT quick by current standards but still had a lovely feel to it and drove surprisingly well.
