Has anyone used a sealer or water repellent recently?
Yep, I've used Gtechniq G1. Apply it to all my vehicles now, particularly effective if you've just had a new screen. Change your wipers at the same time.Pros:
-Barely use the wipers once above say 30mph (this depends on the aero of your car it appears!).
-Screen seems to stay clearer.
-Really don't have to use the wipers at motorway cruising speed - and it's less tiring than watching wipers go back and forwards.
-Easily lasts over a year
-Not as susceptible to screen icing over, so far less scraping of the screen. Amuses me when neighbours are busy pouring warm water or scraping their screen, I just get in, wipe the wipers (as the ice hasn't actually stuck to the screen properly) and off I go!
Cons:
-You play the game of how long you can leave it before needing to use the wipers.
-Can make stonechip repair a bit of a pain apparently according to my local friendly windscreen guy.
-In fog, it's actually a bit worse as it almost grabs the moist air and turns them into droplets on your screen.
On balance, I think it's worth it.
Mainly the battery drain. At some point gonna need t get the sunroof looked at. The seals around the cassette have failed which is why the drains are getting blocked I was told. I have had a replacement seal here at home for a while, just not got round to doing it.
Hopefully will get through an mot in jan. next big job is the CATs after that. Might also consider getting a gearbox oil and filter service as it has not yet had one.
Need new winters on the rear (not changed to summers this year). Summers need a refurb as leaking air.
Plenty needs to be done it seems. Whilst getting the battery drain looked at, also getting them to do an oil and filter change as it’s been a year, not many miles though as hardly drive. It since I got the i3 in June. It’s now my tow car, long distance car and when I need a bit of noise car.

We've got a 530d sadly, not a V8, but in terms of the suspension airbags; how long would the car need to be standing for them to deflate fully, and I assume they will reflate OK when the car is used again?
I ask because ours has been parked at the back of the garage (on a CTEK) since June I think, and it's now time to dig it out and use it but the bags have sagged in that time. The car used to be used more or less daily so there was no issue that I know of previously (beyond the occasional levelling system i-drive warning when carrying heavy loads)

Let us know how you get on. I am looking to... pull the trigger if it works out well. Also how much of a pain, if at all it is to apply.
SureRainX used to be a right pain to buff so the last time I used it was around 10 years ago. This has a specific residue remover. So the G4 is to clean the glass prior to doing anything else. Then you apply the G1. Then you use the G2 Residue Remover. Thats according to the bumph.
I'm no detailer but I appreciate clear vision when its raining.
It's not too bad to apply providing you read the instructions. There is knack to using the residue remover - I think I might have ended up using a microfibre cloth instead.
Mine's getting a stonechip mended on Friday, and as it's my local friendly windscreen place, they let me use their indoor workshop to apply the gtechniq which is better than outside.
Here's a sneaky photo from my previous Mazda 323F.

But there's various vids on youtube which are better, and it does seem to depend on the aerodynamics of your car as to how effective it is, and at what speed.

OK, I'm defecting from the "time we had pictures of everyones jap wagons" thread
Sold my Stagea to a nice lad from Padstow on Saturday morning, which then made available the funds for me to trot down Southampton way to pick up my first ever BMW:
It's an LCI 550i SE, which appears to have had every single option ticked when leaving the factory (comfort seats, dynamic drive, night vision(!) to name but a few), except bizarrely there's no front cigarette lighter/12v socket?
It was owned by the original purchaser up to 2014, at which point the chap I bought it from took ownership. Checking the servicing history, it was looked after by Vines in Guildford until 2014, then has been with an independent specialist since. The (no longer!) current owner seemed like a real enthusiast, he's looked after it really well.
What can I say - up until a week or two ago the thought of owning a BMW had never really crossed my mind, but I'm seriously impressed by this; the engine is an absolute peach, and with the dynamic drive/SE suspension combo it's supremely comfy without handling like a total barge! I'll get some better photos up shortly, haven't had time to take more than a cursory snap so far as have been too busy either driving it or deciphering the iDrive functionality
