Failed crank sensor=non start
Failed cam sensor=longer cranking time as ecu has to use crank signal and do some maths to allow starting
(This was a few years ago on BMWs and the protocol may not apply to ops car, the cam/crank sensor/s may not have anything do with the fault-just chucking my two pence worth into the mix).

Yeah, cam sensor is where I'd put my second pound and they do fail...
It appears neither. Found this using DIS-Hasn't taken so long to start since that one time, occasionally notice a very slight hesitation but nothing like what that first instance was.

I can confirm exactly that happened with my car. Auto box recon, alternator seal, rocker gasket and new alternator. Bought the car for £5k. Spent the same on repairs so far. If I didn't love the sound of the engine and the thrust it produces, I'd cry. But I love it. I feel almost a duty to keep such a rare gem maintained and on the road.
Have we seen yout car, lets have some pics?Good luck. There's one for sale now. Lots of money but to me it looks absolutely excellent. Even with black grilles.

I can't believe how much of a difference Xenons make. Really spoiled myself buying an E46 with bi-xenons. Now everything else seems utterly terrible in comparison!
I agree. I have them on my e91 and modern Boxster. I'd like to retro some adaptive Zenons to the e61 but i guess that's a mission?
With new MOT laws coming into effect, it would be a mission I would imagine. They will need to have washers and self levelling at a minimum. A 550i comes standard with washers, so that's one thing checked off, but the lack of auto levelling could prove problematic. Not to mention the coding of the light units, and I imagine a new LCM would be needed along with a light switch that doesn't have the levelling wheel on it.

All touring have self levelling in the suspension. I was told none have a level adjuster for their lights.Auto levelling is to do with the lights, not the suspension. There's a little sensor on the front and rear control arms. It then checks if the rear suspension is heavily loaded. Halogens don't have this. You'll see the obligatory wheel with numbers on next to the light switch. You are correct though, the E34T onwards has self levelling suspension in the rear.
However, saying that I am sure you might be able to get away with it if your MOT tester is friendly. After all, SLS pretty much negates the need for auto headlight levelling, yet it's still needed.

So does anyone else have the headlight level knob. I don't. However, saying that I am sure you might be able to get away with it if your MOT tester is friendly. After all, SLS pretty much negates the need for auto headlight levelling, yet it's still needed.
I'm pretty sure we went through this way, way back in this thread as I remember looking for the knob (yet can't remember if I have it) and seeing the auto levelling against the garage doors after we discussed it.
Will have a look again this week!
My headlights would seriously benefit from a good Polish, I reckon. They're very, very cloudy. I'm guessing new ones are a lot of money?
